No it is: Shan. Never like that piano loop on the BDP track. Both are kinda boring though.

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 03:34 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I don't like either that much either, though the KRS track is certainly the one vindicated by history.

Abbadavid Berman (Hurting), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 03:39 (nineteen years ago)

KRS's is, as usual, over-rated, mostly by KRS himself. Shan's track is better.

BIDDY-BYE-BYE!!!

Dr. Rodney's Original Savannah Band (R. J. Greene), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 04:14 (nineteen years ago)

obvious answer: 'have a nice day'.

krs is a big fucking tool:

"Because Shan and Marley Marl dem-a-rhymin like they gay
Pickin up the mic, mon, dem don't know what to say"

I'm gonna go against the prevailing thought so far and say BDP.
I love that piano loop. Now this maybe total nostalgia but it always gets me it's just a little haunting but not super dramatic.
Plus you get KRS at his goofiest aping Billy Joel :

'You'd better change what comes out your speaker
You're better off talkin bout your wack Puma sneaker
Cause Bronx created hip-hop, Queens will only get dropped
You're still tellin lies to me'

Marley Marl takes Scott LaRock but KRS owns Shan. The rasta patois + Billy Joel rip are inspired moves, real microphone style.

The actual battle songs are "The Bridge" vs. "South Bronx", though. Attacking an MC by taking his rhyme pattern and writing better lyrics = classic.

Edward III (edward iii), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 15:01 (nineteen years ago)

South Bronx definitely pwns both of these.

Abbadavid Berman (Hurting), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 15:06 (nineteen years ago)

No brainer: KRS wins because, ultimately, he was right.

Whiney G. Weingarten (whineyg), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 15:07 (nineteen years ago)

three years pass...

Fuck KRS, Shan was cool. What would you rather listen to, Born To Be Wild and Down By Law or Ghetto Music and Edufuckin'tainment? I know what the answer is for me! When was the last time you even wanted to play Criminal Minded? Well? Exactly. Plus, Play It Again, Shan is totally slept on. Plus, Shan was a gentleman and never once mentioned Ms. Melodie's addiction to Junior's Cheesecake in any of his raps.

Shan from 87 or 88 or whatever is pretty snooze worthy, though.

I only know this KRS-One guy's name.

I was curious to how Kris and Scott blew the stage
Back then I didn't know you kept the ego front page
I didn't know you had to keep the ego front page
I didn't know you had to keep the ego front page

Jack Of Spades > Anything Shan ever did btw.

scott seward, Saturday, 13 June 2009 22:02 (sixteen years ago)

plus, how many albums has that doofus ruined? almost as many as jello biafra. there you are innocently listening to D Nice's Call Me D Nice and WHOOPS here comes KRS wrecking the damn thing with some of his choice "toasting". ugh.

scott seward, Saturday, 13 June 2009 22:04 (sixteen years ago)

also to shan's credit: refusal to turn informer

If you could just keep a double album worth of KRS and then erase him from history, life would be sweet. (1 of those discs = Boom Bap.)
