Hot 97 Throwback

I heard Hot 97 announce today on the radio that they're starting a second radio station (on HD radio) that's basically going to be a 24-hour extension of the Throwback at Noon -- all older hip-hop. I don't really know what to make of digital radio, but the format idea is a great one. Throwback at Noon is one of my favorite radio shows, and I've been thinking for a long time about how there's a generation of upwardly mobile people out there, now in their 20s and 30s, who grew up on hip-hop. I'd love to see this take off as a proper radio format -- or at least see a hip-hop format that mixes in much more older stuff with the new.

Obviously, Stephin Merritt is against this.

astonished that there is no discussion of star and his stated desire to "R. Kelly" on a four year old girl…

there's plenty of discussion of it outside of ILM. Inever understood the expectation that ILX could/should be or ever was an end-all-be-all of everything going on in music/pop culture at the moment, a whole lot if interesting or high profile shit comes and goes without a single mention here all the time.

I guess you're right. Maybe yon typical ILmer is not a radio listener. Who has the time, when everyone must go back and forth about a little gay gnome who doesn't much care for Young Jeezy?

Fuck one Star.

I just want to hear more pre-2000 hip-hop on the air.
