I heard Main were a good band. Where can I find their music?

I was recommended 'Hz' as well as 'Dry Stone Feed' but they're out of print. I only found Dry Stone Feed being sold at one place for $30 which is more than I want to spend on a band I've never heard before. Since they're out of print, I'd have absolutely no problem acquiring them digitally without payment but I'm not a member of any P2P file sharing community and I don't particularly want to start.

Does anyone know where I could get my hands on these or any Main albums?

Hmmn. Those two albums appear to be expensive on Amazon's z-shops, but Hydra-Calm is good and cheap-ish and so is Motion Pool.

Which is worth it. (Says the major Main freak that is me.)

Hydra-Calm, Motion Pool < "out there" < Hz, Dry Stone Feed

(heh...I had intially typed "Hydra-Clam"...now there's a band-name-in-waiting)

Searching for Loop, I found a bunch of Main on E-music yesterday -- if you are in fact willing to acquire them digitally without paying (first 50 d/ls free). I'm debating getting Motion Pool but will definitely acquire a copy of Hydra-Calm. Heard it at my college radio station when it came out. So good.

I remember picking up Hydra-Calm on my first visit to the UK back in 1992 -- between that and Disco Inferno's In Debt I was inadvertantly establishing a fair chunk of my musical future. ;-)

It does look like we have no Main thread at all, BTW! Long overdue. I've reviewed most of the albums via the AMG...

heh, part 2: I remember a friend of mine singing "there is only lunch" while we were in the cafeteria in grad school in '92...(to the tune of "There Is Only Light", of course)...the sign at the counter said that breakfast hours were over, and that only luch was being served...yeah, you had to be there...

xpost

I remember the packaging on Hydra-Calm as being fantastic.

I didn't particularly like Hydra-Calm, but Hz and Motion Pool are fantastic.

Sorry to venture an opposing opinion, but Main never really did it for me. Too much of "argh, is that the cat?" noises and creepiness. Totally lacking the OOMPH!!! that Loop had.

split EP with Fennesz on Fat Cat is quite lovely.

Ah but Kate, that's why mutual friend/dronefan Stripey LOVES Main, because it is so creepy, as well as so rhythmic without percussion. Different strokes, etc.

It's funny (to me, it's probably not that funny) but I'd never heard of Main until I met my wife, who is a massive Loop fan, she has Hydra Calm & Motion Pool, but she doesn't actually like them much, yet I do a lot. My wife was just being a bit of a completist, she has pretty much everything by Loop. I don't think she has anything by the other Loop spin-off though (something to do with Hair & Skin right?).

The Hair and Skin Trading Co., yes. (Whose last album I've finally found.)

seven months pass...
I bought the Motion Pool 3LP some months back. Kind of liked it but haven't listened to it enough since it's on 3 lps...!!! Need it for my iTunes. Like to hear that Fennesz split too.
