Who can tell me about this Luis Quintero album?

LUIS QUINTERO
Percussion Madness -- Presented By Louie Vega
One of the greatest albums we've heard from the hands of Louie Vega since his Nuyorican Soul project of a decade back -- a mostly-Latin session built around the talents of percussionist Luisito Quintero, and featuring tracks in a mix of traditional and current dancefloor modes!

I *love* that Nu Yorican Soul record (it topped my Best of the 90s ballot here), but the description on this could describe something i'd just as easily hate as something i'd love. anyone heard this, or Luis Quintero in general? I searched and only found one reference on ILM (a salsa thread).

Thanks!!

"Luisito". It's v good! from slow, simple percussion to "nujazz" dancefloor-friendly tracks.

thanks blunt. i was a little worried to see Blaze was involved, actually. because - while i have mucho respect for what he does - most of his stuff just sounds kinda lifeless and boring to me. is this record is more fiery latin-tinged stuff or more "i'd be a yuppie but for my dope smoking and this worldish sounding downtempo cd i bought"?

Well it's got a moist heat to it that could fuck up a trunk-mounted bmw cd changer and the guy has impeccable credentials. Then again, I'd be a revolutionary but for my dope smoking and this fine sounding promo CD the distro sent me.

ok at blunt's recommendation i actually tracked this down on a server i frequent and listened through last night and it's really really great. will definitely be buying it in my next order.

thanks blunt

YW rentboy - now how about a Blaze reappraisal? It's a duo btw. POO "Found Love" maybe? They're all about love anyway, whether in the religious/gospel or pagan/soul sense (which in addition I think is artfully left for you to decide) and being in tune with them feels great, or feeling great brings you in tune with them. Instead of "kinda lifeless and boring" you could think of it as earnestly happy-airy-gay stuff. Plus Josh Milan does a great Stevie Wonder live.

acutally i think my aversion to Blaze is mostly due to an extreme overdose of "My Beat" a few years back. i haven't been able to touch the stuff since :)

Name looks real familiar (I think he's probably a regular percussionist on mainstream salsa releases, along with other things). So what is this exactly? "NuYorican soul" could mean anything, based on what I see on thos compilations.

Also, I really love the name "Luisito."

(Oh, I actually missed the salsa thread comment upthread, and now I see he was on that Isidiro Infante album from earlier this year, which was not bad, and actually had a couple real good tracks on it, but I will leave your thread alone now.)

three years pass...

Just trying to drum up more interest in this CD, which I think is going to be really good:

In for the ride is percussionist extraordinaire Luisito Quintero. . .
