TS: Whitehouse Vs. Blackhouse

i can't believe there has never been a blackhouse -vs- whitehouse thread. (quote from scott seward a day or two ago).

Well, now there is! Noisy Christians who refuse to use synthesizers versus sadistic schoolteachers who abuse synthesizers... take your pick!

For me, Blackhouse wins out because I dig their rhythmic throb and basement-tech noise. I prefer Hope Like A Candle to any of the Whitehouse records I've heard (admittedly only 15 or so).

yikes, you've listened to 15 whitehouse albums?? that's hardcore. i've heard all of two, probably. i'm really only familiar with some of the 80's blackhouse stuff like the holy war album. i went on his website the other day and he's got TONS of albums. i am curious about the later stuff. he has two free albums for download, but i haven't listened yet. i am a sucker for the diy weirdo buzz he emits.

ooh, I gotta check that website out.

There is a great reissue of the 1st Blackhouse tape (Pro-Life)on the Ladd-Frith label that also has a ton of mid-90's bonus trax on it. I think that's the latest stuff I've heard, I haven't been keeping up. Then again, the only newer Whitehouse track I've heard has been "Daddo" from the Mummy And Daddy CD iirc. That was pretty cool. I used to be a total sucker for all that Come Org stuff in the 80's but Blackhouse has held up a lot better.

Whitehouse, in virtue of having the most underappreciated sense of humor in "industrial" music.

i don't know anything about blackhouse but WH's work this decade is vastly, vastly superior to their 80s/90s work.

Birdseed was a killer.
We have Blackhouse's "Holy War" at the store right now. It's... okay.

As a massive fan of industrial/noise/dark ambient/experimental electronic music I must say I think Whitehouse is a wholly unnecessary, underwhelming, and overappreciated band, and not particularly funny either. I mean, except some of the song titles but I don't own any Anal Cunt records either so why should I make an exception.

I have seen the Blackhouse website and it is God. I mean good.

Hmm.

Whitehouse was both a porn mag and a anti-smut on TV campaigner.

Was the magazine named after her?

Which was the band named after?

It's not a quiz, I don't know the answers.

Both the band and the mag are named after the person.

seven years pass...

Pro-Life is slaying me right now, the "Pro-Rhythm" side is so good, just relentless phased out crunch beats and everything is so distorted...
