chromeo

Well, maybe I should have been more specific in my thread. I'm looking for more good funky, disco/r&b influenced electro pop.
A track my project did that got a good amount of blog press kinda in this vain:

The tune is titled, "Caller"

chromeo's kinda disco funky r&b...

lovethefrench (lovethefrench), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 00:57 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, i actually started listening to them after reviewers kept comparing Chromeo to my stuff. I checked 'em out, they got some really nice tracks for sure.

dude, i dunno if this was all just a set up to get people to look at your myspace, but i'd never call your tracks electro funk. i thought Caller was actually kinda cool. reminded me of the clash with a bit of 70s soft pop vocals on top. i'd call both songs (especially the second one) just nü post punk. if you're looking for more music like that first song, the only thing that really comes to mind is like Annie or Richard X.

Dude, not a "set up"....like I said, you brought up Chromeo & I responded by telling you that reviewers compared some of my stuff to Chromeo...that's how I originally heard of em.
You can google for yourself & you'll see.
I'm honestly just looking for some solid modern electro funk I may not have heard of is all.

and I would not consider our sound electro funk. I agree, I don't think "Caller" sounds anything like Chromeo. Your assesment is much more accurate.

best..

obvously you know about Hot chip because you're gonna play with them. but they're doing something similar. other groups that are doing this indie + beats thing are junior boys, kelley polar, erlend oye, unai (i think, but haven't heard), the latest Safety Scissors (sorta), postal service, dntel

jäxøñ (jaxon), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 02:34 (nineteen years ago)

Hmm, I like some orlend oye stuff...though the last thing i heard by him was a while ago. Dig the junior boys too. I'll give unai & kelly polar a check...never heard of that. not into much indie shit though, once in a while something grabs me though, like the junior boys.
most indie vocals/lyrics/production & arragements aren't my thing.

33Hz is doing some really fantastically written and produced stuff.

three years pass...

So which Andre Cymone, E.T. (= Eddie Townes) and Dazz Band LPs are worth paying $1 for, if one happens to stumble across them? (I know probably only one, and at most two, of those artists comes from Minnesota, but this seemed liked the most obvious thread to post on.)

Fwiw: Jesse Johnson's Shockadelica, which I did pay $1, turned out not to be worth that much. So I'm probably kind of picky. General Kane's Wide Open, from 1987, only barely makes the cut.

Oops, actually meant to post this on "The minneaplolis sound (midwest electro-funk-rock in the 80s): s/d" thread instead. But now it's too late.

i'm just glad to know that someone actually posted to that thread after it died a sad, lonely death years ago
