a) what if there is no correlation whatever between trauma and repercussion

b) what if anyone who objects to uncritical adulation of Nirvana just WASNT FUCKIN THERE, MAN

Everything is better than Nirvana.

..Sliver by far.

Harrison Barr (Petar), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 10:39 (nineteen years ago)

don't know the bumsurfers song, will be interested to hear opinion on that, but sliver's always been my favourite nirvana song. the way it arrives on a squeal of feedback. kurt always was a whiny kid, so the song suits him perfectly

Not even sure what Nirvana song that is (I THINK it may be that one about the guy who likes to shoot his guns and sing along with their pretty songs tho he knows not what they mean; but I can't guarantee it) but that doesn't matter 'cause there's NO way it's gonna measure up to one of the Surfers' all-time creepiest found-sound sludgefests. (And I LIKE Nirvana!)

Myonga Von Butthole, Tuesday, 16 May 2006 12:40 (nineteen years ago)

Surfers, dude.

chadbeck (squirrel boy), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 12:44 (nineteen years ago)

Is that all you have to do all day, just sit around and watch TV?

Venga (Venga), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 12:45 (nineteen years ago)

Sliver seems like the quintessential Nirvana song.

I've not heard that B-Hole S-fers song.

Butthole Surfers in a landslide.

'22 goin on 23' i have to turn off just about everytime.
due to LSD related creepiness that i STILL associate w/ that song...

still, BHS is da pick.

Track 1 on Hairway does that for me.

Venga (Venga), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 15:04 (nineteen years ago)

Butties all the way.

(the caller in that song did not actually suffer any trauma, btw - she was a pathological liar and regular caller to the radio show)

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 15:17 (nineteen years ago)

cow sounds on 22 going on 23, make me laugh every time
I hear it.

JB Young (JB Young), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 15:22 (nineteen years ago)

Butthole Surfers definitely. That song always creeped the hell out of me (and who cares about that other dude's grandpa anyhow?).

Hate jams (NickB), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 15:24 (nineteen years ago)

I guess Nirvana in general is more actually disturbing cuz of the whole "hey lookit me n my self-absorbed suffering oops I blew my head off" thing - the Butties have too much humor in them that prevents them from being really emotionally hard to take. at least, for me. The Butties are freaky and horrifying but in a childlike joyful way.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 15:33 (nineteen years ago)

ANOTHER FUN FACT. KURT THOUGHT GIBBY WAS FUNNY WHEN THEY WERE AT THAT REHAB PLACE BECAUSE HE WAS TELLING HIM FUNNY STORIES ABOUT HOW OTHER PEOPLE HAD TRIED TO CLIMB THE WALL AND ESCAPE

xgurggleglgllg (xgurggleglgllg), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 18:59 (nineteen years ago)

OH YEAH I FORGOT THAT PART

latebloomer (latebloomer), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 22:12 (nineteen years ago)

YELLING

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 22:16 (nineteen years ago)

YEAH.......IT'S FUNNY EXCEPT FOR THE DEATH AND ALL
I WONDER IF KURT WOULD HAVE KNOWN ABOUT CLIMBING THE WALL IF IT WASN'T FOR GIBBY......

(turns down music)

.....I wonder what it would be like to be Gibby on his deathbed looking back at all the crazy stories of his life.

xgurggleglgllg (xgurggleglgllg), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 22:33 (nineteen years ago)

I love Nirvana and that song in particular, but "22 going on 23" wins.

"22 going on 23" is one of the few songs I heard that made me change the way I learned how to make music, because I realized when I first heard it (when i was 15) I could tune down my guitar strings three octaves and easily reproduce the song.. minus the radio sample of course.

It was exactly the same time I discovered Negativland (via Escape From Noise), and realized I could make "music" by recording TV onto my cassette and use the pause button to repiece stuff onto other cassettes. The combination of these two pieces was a cornerstone for me.

tune down my guitar strings three octaves

?????

Do you mean three semitones?
