Dabrye TWO/THREE

I have been lucky enough to get a promo of the new Dabrye coming out June 13. It's been a long time coming, but I just wanted to say that it's amazing. The MCs are great (was a little worried about that), and the instrumentals bump.

Air featuring MF Doom is out now I think.

by the way, no I will not YSI, RapidShare, or whatever the promo.

anyone else hype that this is finally coming out?

i'm pretty excited. i loved the first two full lengths, but thought the additional productions thing of remixes sucked. the only good song on it was marred by terrible vocals (luckily it was also the only song on there with an instrumental also)

i wanna hear the a.g. cut even tho i bet its the boringest one

i didn't look at the mcs before. a bit backpackery, but luckily he stuck to what originally inspired him in the first place - detroit mcs

The track with Kadence is up here:

Kadence is disappointing... Dabrye played a show here not too long ago that was just him and Kadence, and I couldn't get over how clumsy his flow is, and how he manages to hit every underground MC cliche.
I like Tadd's production a lot, but that track seems like a bad one to promo the album with.
(Air and Game Over seemed nice enough, though Doom seems to get the same production style out of everyone he works with).

ps. As a fun trivia note, Kadence's nickname in the neighborhood was Bighead Brandon, for reasons that are readily apparent should you ever see a picture of him.

Totally mind-blowing. I just got a promo yesterday, and this album is all I can think about. I never paid too much attention to DABRYE, but I sure will from here on out. For fans of: Five Deez, Sa-Ra, Anti-Pop Consortium, MF Doom, Dalek, etc.

i loved one/three and thought instrmntls was very good. needless to say i am excited about this one. looking for some spacey top notch head nodding beat programming. i like his stuff because it doesn't seem forced even though it can be stuttery.

You mean, Kadence is that cabeza grande kid that used to sing Nine Inch Nails at the top of his lungs in the back seat of my car when I drove y'all to Commie High? omg. 14 minutes and counting I guess.

one month passes...
So what's the general consensus on this?

Pretty good but not great, at least from my vantage. Solid B.

And am I the only one that noticed the same fucking handclaps on every track?

js (honestengine), Saturday, 24 June 2006 17:57 (nineteen years ago)

so far, i've been unable to get into this. i loved one/three and instrumentl, but this is a bit of a disappointment. lazy drum programming, the rhymes never match the beats very well, and much less of the machine/human tension that distinguished his earlier work.

two weeks pass...
For me, this one went off the rails when compared to the first two. I mean, no lost points for trying something different. There's certainly ambition here. But for me, the mc's throwing rhymes in all various directions seems to, in a way, have this agenda of distracting from the instrmnts (such as they are).
