Easy one, Scott Walker.
Art school meets Sinatra.

astronautagogo (astronautagogo), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 21:31 (nineteen years ago)

I'd say Tim Buckley. Starsailor is, imo, a better album than anything I've heard by Walker, though I like his work a good amount too.

Harrison Barr (Petar), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 22:50 (nineteen years ago)

King Scott Walker

WillS (WillS), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 22:55 (nineteen years ago)

scott walker. i like tim buckley but i sort of have to be in the mood for him.

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 22:57 (nineteen years ago)

what about throwing some David Sylvian (or even miles davis) in here for good measure?

jäxøñ (jaxon), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 23:02 (nineteen years ago)

Davis > Walker >> Sylvian >> Buckley

polyphonic (polyphonic), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 23:03 (nineteen years ago)

Impossible to choose.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 23:07 (nineteen years ago)

Walker by a mile, though Buckley finally proved his worth to me over time.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 23:10 (nineteen years ago)

i like the idea of scott walker, but i have a very hard time getting past his vocal style

timmy tannin (pompous), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 23:11 (nineteen years ago)

Walker by a mile!

Brooker Buckingham (Brooker B), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 23:28 (nineteen years ago)

davis>buckley>>sylvian>>>walker

Scott Walker. His new one is amazing. It's the most terrifying record I've ever heard by anyone.

Matt Berlyant (incarag), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 19:04 (nineteen years ago)

Pretty interesting comparison, really. Haven't heard enough Buckley to say, but I like my favorites by him more.

Mark (MarkR), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 19:05 (nineteen years ago)

Buckley because I couldn't fuck to Scott Walker

ghost dong (Sonny A.), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 19:26 (nineteen years ago)

Miles Davis, by several thousand light years

xhuxk, Wednesday, 17 May 2006 19:28 (nineteen years ago)

miles davis > god, but scott walker vs tim buckley is interesting. they're sort of inverses of each other

Dominique (dleone), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 19:34 (nineteen years ago)

Timbo gets points deducted for spawning Jeff. Not that it matters, Scott wins effortlessly.

The Mercury Krueger (Ex Leon), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 19:41 (nineteen years ago)

I knew that Sylvian would be mentioned as soon as I read 'scott walker', but really.....how did Miles get in here?

baht habit, Wednesday, 17 May 2006 22:59 (nineteen years ago)

Scott Walker v.s. Eric Clapton are two inverses InMyHonestInternetOpinion

Cunga (Cunga), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 23:30 (nineteen years ago)

I knew that Sylvian would be mentioned as soon as I read 'scott walker', but really.....how did Miles get in here?

their trajectories sorta matched. all sorta started out in very straight laced almost pop spectrums and they each continually turned their backs on their audience and creating new adventurous music along the way.

buckley: folk -> jazzy singer songwriter -> avant, classical, jazz, fuckedupedness -> whiteboy soul -> dead

walker: 60s pop* -> dark, adult MOR pop -> avant, classical, "industrial, fuckedupedness

sylvian: new wave, jazzy, ambient singer songwriter -> avant fuckedupedness

miles: bop -> cool -> modal -> jazz rock -> jazz, rock, fusion, free -> jazz, rock, funk -> boring(?) balad stuff** -> hip hop** -> dead

* (i actually don't know what walker bros sounded like, so correct me if i'm wrong)

** (i've never actually heard mile's late period stuff, so i dunno)

excuse all the fucked up spelling, grammar and punctuation

jäxøñ (jaxon), Thursday, 18 May 2006 00:29 (nineteen years ago)

walker>sylvian >>>buckley.

i can't make Miles Davis part of this 'cos i'm mostly ignorant about him. for shame.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 18 May 2006 00:34 (nineteen years ago)

Miles is in there because Tim ripped off "All Blues" for his "Strange Feeling".

Oh, and Tim wins.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Thursday, 18 May 2006 00:35 (nineteen years ago)

I think Scott would concede this to Tim, who went art/difficult earlier and may have helped inspire him.

Paul (scifisoul), Thursday, 18 May 2006 02:08 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, see, that's the thing ... I love Scott Walker to death but it took him 30 years to make his Lorca. Tim made his when he was like 22, it's insane.

plus, 'Sefronia', 'Look At The Fool' >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 'Stretch','We Had it All'
