Here goes...

The Magik Markers played about 40 minutes of almost constant noise, no pauses whatsoever. Then just "Thanks, we're the Magik Markers, Lightning Bolt is next". That 40 minutes seemed to be half the time though.

Lightning Bolt were fucking amazing. First time I've seen them, I have to say they weren't _quite_ as loud as I thought they might be, although of course they were fucking loud. Not Dinosaur Jr/MBV/Motorhead loud though. The drummer moved his whole drum kit out into the middle of the audience towards the end of their set! The noise that they get out of a bass guitar is incredible.

Woo! Now I'm all hyper and it's midnight and I have to go to stupid work tomorrow. Bugger.

"UP AGAINST THE WALL!" He's a bossy bastard isn't he? Lost a good half stone there in sweat. I loved the dragging of drum kit into the audience. He's amazing to watch, staring right into peoples faces whilst pummeling the kit, I guess that's where the energy comes from.

My only complaint is people standing next to you stock still in a mosh pit trying to get pictures on their stupid phones.

Lightning Bolt gigs are too intense for me. Saw them in London in December. Made me feel physically sick. I was about 30cm away from them tbh.

Absolutely fantastic record. Synthesizes so much of what made Lightning Bolt and the whole Load Records/Fort Thunder scene great in the first place.

Lightning Bolt live is one of those experiences that kinda transcends (in the right room) whatever preconceptions you might have of what it is gonna be like. They just steamroll reality right the fuck out of the way and all that is left is the totality of Lightning Bolt. Well, LB and all the spasming humans unable to help themselves from moving along to the music but not quite being able to figure out how to do so.

Most recently I saw them play a Mexican restaurant in Santa Fe. Towards the end of the set me and my wife left and went across the street to relax for a minute (it was crushingly sweaty/crowded) and it was still too loud to talk to face to face.

They're playing Neumos in Seattle, which I am not too excited about- every loud show I've seen there lately is just so blown out sounding.

Fantasy Empire was so good ... their best ever, imo, though I imagine that's not the consensus. Anyway, looking forward to this.

I'm not quite sure I'd go as far as best ever, but it was absolutely fantastic and just as good as the high points of the initial run. Really looking forward to this new one.

Sounds like Lightning...Blues? Definitely one of the most straightforwardly riffy things I've heard them do.

Dude is hilarious; at one point he took out his phone and took a selfie with the crowd in the background and was like "yeah, that's a good one!" When they came out for the encore he started talking about eating bananas and the crowd ended up chanting "POTASSI-UM! "POTASSI-UM!"
