Great record. Jimmy is menacing and soothing at the same time, a duality that is evident in many of my other favourite Ethopian singers.

Jimmy's band is excellent throughout (the krar playing is particularly spindly and nasty!), and when they're augmented by Han Bennink they kind of remind me of This Heat feat. Mahmoud Ahmed (which never happened, I know).

How's Mekurya's playing? He's on a few of the tracks, right? I find him absolutely devastating in small doses, which seems to be the exact prescription on this one...
