Always found it lovely but somehow unremarkable. The French players accompanying him are great. Haven't seen the film.

Classic.

The French players accompanying him are great.
Yeah, but look how much interest this thread generated.

the movie has just been re-released by criterion and it includes footage of the recording session with miles as bonus material. i think i'll pick it up next time i'm in memphis.

I only dig the Miles stuff arranged by Gil Evans, that's it.

the movie is great! Jeanne Moreau always a treat. but to be honest this thing never blew me away ... nice playing by Miles, but yeah.

This album reminds me of a girl, Kim, who I ran away to San Farancisco to be with. It was her favourite record. It didn't work out and I returned to London three weeks later with my tail between my legs and nothing but a copy of Mingus, Mingus, Mingus that she'd bought me and a pair of Dickies trousers that I got for $2 in a thrift store.

Sigh.

So, er, classic!

San Farancisco! It's like San Francisco, but with an extra 'a'.

Classic. The soundtrack is incredibly adept at visualisation - i'd love to see the film.

the film itself is classic though it has somewhat of a dud ending.

I love this record... as a filmmaker who's crazy about the movie, I think that enhances it a lot, but the music is so evocative to begin with... this and Sketches of Spain are my 2 favorite Miles Davis albums I think.

Classic. V evocative and free ranging.
