It's been out in France since May 12. I seem to recall there being some Phoenix fans out here, yet I can't seem to find a thread about their new album. So, have you people yet to hear the album? Heard it and hated it? Loved it?

some talk about the new album here-
where is phoenix, anyway?
they get a lot of mentions, don't see why they do over say arnaud fleurent-didier or fugu or chut! or orwell.
oops, beaten to it.

The album is nice enough. I preferred the more polished production on their first two efforts, on the other hand, the song material seems to be slightly better this time around.

I think the new album is kind of a bore. 'Alphabetical' had a few really great pop songs on it. "Everything Is Everything" was a sure shot top 10 hit..the fact that A&R guys here in the states couldn't chart that just shows how far heads are up asses in the industry.
Like alot of folks, I first got turned on to Phoenix off of their single, "If I Ever Feel Better" great song, great lyrics, melodys, production, etc...I heard it off of a Source comp I picked up for free at an Air 10,000 MHZ tour date. Air was so-so that night, but it didn't matter cause there were so many hot chicks there.
(Contrary to opinons i've seen expressed on this board, I thought the remixes of "If I Ever Feel Better" were all pretty terrible. Kinda generic house that edited all the catchiest parts of the song out!)
Anyway, I immeadiately ordered an LP copy of "United."
"If I Ever Feel Better" "Too Young" & "Funky Squaredance" clearly stood out to me, as the most original & best tracks.
Still, in my opinon the best the track they have ever written to date is "Funky Squaredance"
From then on, Phoenix seems to have gone on to a more & more conventional rock sound.
The new album's lyrics are more heady, which I don't care for & the music is real straight forward alt-rock.
They lost me on this one...YAWN.
Either way, if this boring direction helps make them alot of money, then I don't blame 'em. If it eats shit, then they are twice fucked.

Loved
United, never so much as heard
Alphabetical and just picked this up. Still too early to be totally certain about the whole thing, but "Napoleon Days" is a solid opener...
