May I ask for 50's and 60's bluesy soul/soulful blues tips?

so i like country blues, but i'm not crazy about the elmore leonard / otis rush electric blues (though I like some). but I love, to the point of delirium, electric blues when there's an overt gospel/doo-wop/soul influence! In fact, I like any kind of music with an overt gospel/doo-wop/soul influence. Except U2.

I'm thinking of records like Bobby 'Blue' Bland's "Two Steps from the Blues", Magic Sam's "West Side Soul", The "5" Royales "Slummer the Slum", Bo Diddley's everything, that Don Covay "House of Blue Light" album, and so on. Fierce guitar playing with exuberant vocals. Any recommendations along this line? The older the better. Box sets and comps are ok but if there's anyone that could sustain, say, 2/3 of a 2cd retrospective...

I had never been a fan of Fleetwood Mac until someone on this site mentioned the original line-up including Peter Green and Jeremy Spencer. Peter Green formed the band from the remnants of John Mayall and the Blues Breakers, and they were straight-up blues before Green and Spencer left, and Buckingham and Nicks joined. You may also want to check out any of Mike Bloomfield's stuff. I'm not big on his vocals, but some would argue (including Bob Dylan) that he was one of the finest blues guitarists of all time.

I didn't know Elmore Leonard's illustrious career extended to making blues records of the Otis Rush variety... You talking about Elmore James?

If you like Bland, try Junior Parker, early Little Milton, early Johnnie Taylor, early BB King and early Solomon Burke

whoopsie! that's why you don't start threads at three a.m. i knew i wasn't going to come out clean.
yeah, elmore james, that's the ticket.

i'm checking out the little milton "sun masters" right now--seems that's just the thing i'm after.
