I love this because it is the only song i know that combines slow dance honty-tonk and R&B into one cool song.

I HATED that song so damn much growing up but now must give it props. It's a well constructed tune and about the only salvageable tune from that trainwreck of an album, no doubt about it. This song inadvertently showcases what a crappy drummer Don Henley is though. Those fills at the end of the song... you can practically here him counting along in his head trying to keep up. I can understand it if he's singin' and sh*t, but it ain't even his song and he's plodding along.

High comedy, with a stress on the word high.

The Howard Hewitt version off of Rubiat totally redeemed this song for me.

best cocaine ballad ever ... the video is brilliant as well

Radiohead's "I Will" reminds me of this song. I'd be quite tempted to make "I Can't Tell You Why" my choice if this were an Eagles OPO thread - they have some great middle eights, but this song is much stronger from start to finish.

One of the few Eagles ballads I can sorta like, thanks to Alan Parker's decision to play it over the end credits of Shoot the Moon.

Gotta love it when the bass player sings.

My Eagles OPO would be this song and that thing that happens at 5:29 of "Hotel California".

The one and ONLY Eagles song I like, to this day. Biggest reason? It's so damned pretty. Second-biggest reason? No Henley/Frey on vocals. Third-biggest? It sounds so unforced, like it was allowed to just breathe and do its own thing, in stark contrast to much of their catalog.

it's the Eagles, so... D

punis (punis), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 18:15 (nineteen years ago)

thought it sucked for a while, now I like it. The chorus is kinda limp, but the intro and outro totally seal it for me.

And WTF with this "the only Eagles song I like," "it's the Eagles so of course it sucks" biz. EAGLES RULE

They certainly do not.

"One of These Nights" >>> your favorite distant relative

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 18:53 (nineteen years ago)

I like all of the "Back to Mine" Eagles hits, like this one, Lyin' Eyes, Best of My Love, Take It to the Limit, etc

Billy Pilgrim (Billy Pilgrim), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 19:14 (nineteen years ago)

haha billy otm - for the longest time this was the only eagles song i liked, now i pretty much fall for all of that vein - 'take it to the limit' nearly as much as 'ictuy' now.

j blount (papa la bas), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 19:19 (nineteen years ago)

i hate 'tequila sunrise' more than ever cuz it comes so so close to being a really great example of this but it falls short and the frey level is a bit too high.

ICTYW never really moved me one way or the other ... but "Those Shoes" from the same album is my personal favorite Eagles track.

Knowledge of tunes beyond what's on grtsthts1&2 is not something I think I can countenance! :)

Billy Pilgrim (Billy Pilgrim), Thursday, 25 May 2006 17:33 (nineteen years ago)

I liked it when I was 13. I also thought it was England Dan or something. I can't stomach much of anything by the Eagles these days - although I say the same for the Rolling Stones.
