Making my first trip to both locales in the last week of June, first week of July. I'm looking for the sort of recommendations that will make me go far out of my way and spend well over my budget to have a good time. Thankye.

have ye a car?...the Museum of Bad Art merits a visit...it's located in Dedham, Mass, about 10 miles or so south of Boston...(and it's FREE)...also: the Mapparium at the Christian Science Headquarters (freaky) and the MIT Museum (Cambridge)...

The Mapparium is a good call. If you're looking cultural the Isabella Stuart Gardner museum is also a pretty good time. Seriously, the best thing to do in Boston is to just walk around. Go to the North End and hang out at Cafe Vittoria. Walk the esplanade along the Charles River, the Common, and the Public Gardens. Wander up Newbury Street and revel in the obnoxiousness of Newbury Comics. Get lunch at the Garden of Eden on Tremont St. Go to the Publick House in Brookline and drink a beer that you've never heard of. Follow the Harbor Walk until you get bored, or blow all your money on scalped Sox tickets. Good luck!

I'm with Sean. Boston's a beautiful walking city. And the public transportation is unreliable as hell, so you're better off not making any plans that involve using the T anyway.

Oh christ. Contemplating a Steven Seagal live show brings a lump to my throat.
