The Afghan Whigs - "Gentlemen"
Oh, you're just saying that because he looks like someone took Greg Dulli, cleaned him up, lobotomized him and told him to never ever ever go near a bar or a cigarette or a woman again.

Wow, you know, I was watching this show with my mom recently and I suggested that he sing this song too. I'm not sure if he can handle the high notes in that song, though...

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Thursday, 25 May 2006 12:14 (nineteen years ago)

Duet with Mandisa, "On My Own"?

yeah, I hear that. had this same idea, but like you, I'm skeptical; I don't think he's ever really rocked the falsetto on the show (does he even have one?)

ps: The Constantines - "Tank Commander (Hung Up In A Warehouse Town)", if only to see him totally spaz out at the "NIGHT AFTER NIGHT! NIGHT AFTER NIGHT! WOOOOOOO, NIGHT AFTER NIGHT!" part

bernard snow (sixteen sergeants), Thursday, 25 May 2006 12:30 (nineteen years ago)

But seriously folks, how is this dude going to get marketed? His ambition is apparently to sing safe versions of 70s soul while dressed like Barry & Levon from the State (I'm not sure if this association came up because he did Elton John's "Levon" but whatever). It all seems very specifically pitched at the 35-to-60 demographic. Do teenage girls like him?

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Thursday, 25 May 2006 12:52 (nineteen years ago)

the jay leno theme music

only children bleed (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 25 May 2006 12:58 (nineteen years ago)

Serious question: do teenage girls buy Clay Aiken's records? He also seems pitched to the 35-to-60 demographic, but he's sold millions of albums.

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 25 May 2006 13:37 (nineteen years ago)

I'm sure Taylor could do a killer version of 6.4 = Makeout.

mr. jimmerson, Thursday, 25 May 2006 13:59 (nineteen years ago)

2 lazy 2 login, Thursday, 25 May 2006 15:55 (nineteen years ago)

I don't think he should do it under any circumstances, but I predict "Soul Man" within 30 days.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 25 May 2006 16:09 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I was gonna say - I didn't know if he did it on the show, but it's a perfectly (awful and) logical move.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 25 May 2006 16:37 (nineteen years ago)

I'd like to see him do a meatloaf cover, preferrably something over 6 minutes long. Hicks shines down the stretch.

"Darlington County" (the Springsteen song)

After hearing him do a great job with "Dancing in the Dark", I think I'd pay good money to hear him cover the entire "Born To Run" album.

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 25 May 2006 18:32 (nineteen years ago)

are you kidding me? I thought his "Dancing in the Dark" was atrocious. maybe it would've been better if he hadn't been dancing around during it, but he sounded really pant-y and out-of-breath
