second-best moment of the night, surpassed only by that Clay Aiken lookalike's near-heart-attack

bernard snow (sixteen sergeants), Thursday, 25 May 2006 12:31 (nineteen years ago)

Best moment of the night: when Dionne Warwick came out during the Bacharach medley

Second best: Prince

Third: Mary J. Blige

Who was more incoherent: Toni Braxton or Meatloaf?

kornrulez6969 (TCBeing), Thursday, 25 May 2006 13:38 (nineteen years ago)

Toni Braxton sounded awful, I think it was the wrong key for her. Also: rubbing herself all over another person while singing about poverty is probably inappropriate.

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 25 May 2006 13:48 (nineteen years ago)

Rubbing herself over Taylor Hicks, who looked uncomfortable, inappropriate as hell.

ramon fernandez (ramon fernandez), Thursday, 25 May 2006 14:05 (nineteen years ago)

Prince - awful pandering filanderer. But he was super fantastic.

The Aiken ephisode was a friggin' gutbuster.

christoff (christoff), Thursday, 25 May 2006 14:20 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, the whole Toni Braxton thing kind of creeped me out. and then as if to make it worse, they cut to Taylor's dad sitting in the audience looking totally weirded-out.

bernard snow (sixteen sergeants), Thursday, 25 May 2006 14:22 (nineteen years ago)

I thought it was funny that Hicks got so freaked out at the thought of sexy-dancing with Toni Braxton. What's the big deal? The guy seems awfully uptight.

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 25 May 2006 14:24 (nineteen years ago)

Classic for sure. More sexiness than was ever seen on that show, sadly.

Eppy (Eppy), Thursday, 25 May 2006 14:28 (nineteen years ago)

xpost

Maybe he assumed that any sane person wouldn't want to bump and grind to "In the Ghetto". Sounds like a safe assumption, really. I don't think he's uptight, after all, he tried to dance with Kat during "I've Had the Time of My Life" but got rebuffed, not because Kat is uptight, but likely because her on-stage movements are completely scripted and she's incapable of any kind of sponteneity. You want weird/creepy sexiness, how about Kat trying to feign raw desire for Meatloaf. That dress was something else though. If all else fails, she should tour with Meat and be his token harlot that duets with him on "I Would Do Anything For Love" and "Paradise By the Dashboard Light".

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 25 May 2006 14:44 (nineteen years ago)

Dud: He sounded tired ( as in "I've got no energy left in my voice'). Couldn't quite hit those high notes. Major Autopilot Performance. Still looks clean, though.

Well, that was a different kind of dancing. I just thought it was funny how he jumped like he'd touched a hot iron or something when she started moving close to him.

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 25 May 2006 16:24 (nineteen years ago)

dionne warwick was the one who really sounded tired

Rly?!?

I thought he looked and sounded great.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 25 May 2006 16:45 (nineteen years ago)

I agree with Jordan; I have no idea what half of you people are talking about.

Dan (Great Performance) Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 25 May 2006 16:46 (nineteen years ago)

Prince!

Josh in Chicago (Josh in Chicago), Thursday, 25 May 2006 17:07 (nineteen years ago)

Screw Prince. Someone hook me up with a link to the Meatloaf video.

subgenius (subgenius), Thursday, 25 May 2006 17:09 (nineteen years ago)

Hahaha yeah, that was also very entertaining if for completely different reasons.

Dan (Schoenberg Remix) Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 25 May 2006 17:12 (nineteen years ago)

Was Toni Braxton fucked up or what? Is she supposed to sound like that?

Elliott looked overwhelmed onstage w/Mary J. Blige.

darin (darin), Thursday, 25 May 2006 17:57 (nineteen years ago)

I dunno, my memory may be clouded by my strongly pro-Elliott bias, but I thought he held his own

bernard snow (sixteen sergeants), Thursday, 25 May 2006 18:08 (nineteen years ago)

No, I thought Elliott was fine actually.

Every epsiode of American Idol should end with David Hasselhoff crying.

darin (darin), Thursday, 25 May 2006 18:14 (nineteen years ago)

my little sister asked me who Meatloaf was and I don't think I did a very good job explaining it, probably because I realized partway through that his continued existence still doesn't make a lick of sense to me

bernard snow (sixteen sergeants), Thursday, 25 May 2006 18:15 (nineteen years ago)

Just tell her it's that dude from Fight Club.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 25 May 2006 18:16 (nineteen years ago)

As noted on the show last night, he exists in order to release albums called "Bat Out of Hell" every 14 years.

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 25 May 2006 18:30 (nineteen years ago)

meatloaf and prince rule. ok?

chaki (chaki), Thursday, 25 May 2006 19:30 (nineteen years ago)

Meat "Bitch Tits" Loaf

Andy_K (Andy_K), Thursday, 25 May 2006 19:35 (nineteen years ago)

After rearranging those four words several different ways, I believe I've come up with a winning combination.

I just look at him and feel like I'm watching the monster from Jeepers Creepers or something
