Kerrang!, the much beloved 'bible of heavy metal, will be celebrating its 25th birthday by giving away a CD with its 06.06.06 issue (in stores by Wednesday May 31st).

Entitled High Voltage the 15-track disc is made up of classic rock and metal songs covered by contemporary bands, with 10 of the tracks recorded exclusively for the CD.

"After the phenomenal response we got from our Re-Mastered album, we knew we had to put together an equally special CD for our 25th birthday," says K! editor Paul Brannigan. "The songs you'll hear on High Voltage are the foundations upon which Kerrang! built its reputation as 'the rock bible'. This CD is our way of uniting Kerrang!s past, present and future."

We here at Roadrunner want to wish all our friends at Kerrang! at least another 250 years of head-banging, and let you know that the Killswitch, Still Remains and 36CF covers are all killer! ,/I>

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Thursday, 25 May 2006 22:15 (nineteen years ago)

Fallout Boy continues to surprise me, with the best song on the list (besides maybe Sweet Emotion or You Give Love). I wonder if they'll do the harmonica solo...

max (maxreax), Thursday, 25 May 2006 22:23 (nineteen years ago)

I wonder who decided what songs to cover. If it was the band or Kerrang or "Advisors".

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Thursday, 25 May 2006 22:37 (nineteen years ago)

5. Biffy Clyro "Buddy Holly" (originally by Weezer)*

a) Biffy Clyro are still going?
b) this could be the worst song in history, I must hear it

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 25 May 2006 22:40 (nineteen years ago)

I don't wanna hear track 14.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Thursday, 25 May 2006 22:43 (nineteen years ago)

I just noticed the date of issue. Should've known Kerrang would do something crappy for that.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Friday, 26 May 2006 07:53 (nineteen years ago)

25 years? Really?

You'll be telling me next that Zigzag folded longer ago than that...!

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 26 May 2006 07:59 (nineteen years ago)

Dom, no...

6. Fightstar "My Own Summer (Shove It)" (originally by Deftones)*

... will be the worst song in history.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 26 May 2006 08:05 (nineteen years ago)

I'm going to email my girlfriend now and tell her about that Biffy Clyro cover. Or I might send a 'with sympathy' card, either way she ain't going to be happy

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Friday, 26 May 2006 08:11 (nineteen years ago)

there seems to be a little bit of history rewriting going on there. where are the covers of Marillion, Warlock, Thunderstick, Marino feat Lisa Dominique, Samson, Witchfynde etc etc etc?

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 26 May 2006 11:28 (nineteen years ago)

Don't give Classic Rock Magazine any ideas!

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Friday, 26 May 2006 11:29 (nineteen years ago)

Avenged Sevenfold covering Robin George would be unbelievably terrible, but at least honest.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 26 May 2006 11:29 (nineteen years ago)

A lot of the last A7X (as their fan calls them) album reminded me of Little Angels

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Friday, 26 May 2006 11:37 (nineteen years ago)

Ugh Little Angels. I had managed to supress them from my memory.
Kerrang really has covered some amount of shite in its time.
Can anyone name worse bands than Little Angels?

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Friday, 26 May 2006 11:54 (nineteen years ago)

Marino featuring Lisa Dominique.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 26 May 2006 11:59 (nineteen years ago)

Well i've never heard of them but I do remember kerrang always giving away posters of her in lingerie away.
But they must be REALLY bad if its worse than the little angels.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Friday, 26 May 2006 12:07 (nineteen years ago)

Wrathchild.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 26 May 2006 12:20 (nineteen years ago)

Why are there so many crap bands on this CD?

DJ Martian (djmartian), Friday, 26 May 2006 12:21 (nineteen years ago)

Because no good bands would dare appear on it/were asked?

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Friday, 26 May 2006 12:25 (nineteen years ago)

This band "Bullet For My Valentine" are faves with British teenagers - WHY ? - they are generic tripe!

DJ Martian (djmartian), Friday, 26 May 2006 12:28 (nineteen years ago)

Manowar (though they were admittedly funnier than little angels)

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 26 May 2006 12:28 (nineteen years ago)

Actually heres a challenge for everyone.
What bands and songs could you compile for a worse comp?

Hands up who would buy it for the Saxon track?

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Friday, 26 May 2006 12:37 (nineteen years ago)

Good Charlotte - Love Like Blood

Lucky for you that NYC Alex doesn't post here so much anymore.

I was trying to think of a worse cover, but my mind got stuck on the terrible idea of hard-fi covering "shot by both sides", and I can't get past it, even though kerrang never ever mentioned magazine, and I don't know if they cover hard-fi.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 26 May 2006 12:44 (nineteen years ago)

That was for Alex!

Come on ILM. The challenge is set. Compile a worse cd!!

I'll give that a listen then.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 09:00 (nineteen years ago)

I'm listening to this CD now. It's fucking awful. The DEP track is probably the highlight, and I didn't think much of that

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 10:24 (nineteen years ago)

The Darkness - Bohemian Raphosody
-- DJ Martian (altmartinu...), May 26th, 2006 11:09 AM.

Isn't this their entire career already?

Thomas Inskeep (submeat), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 16:01 (nineteen years ago)

I have downloaded this now. It really is worse than you can imagine. Biffy Clyro reducing "Buddy Holly" down to roughly a seventh of its original speed, somehow singing it in an even more American accent... seriously, you need to hear this to find how bad it is.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 20:08 (nineteen years ago)

On the other hand, Atreyu's "You Give Love A Bad Name" is actually quite nice. It's just the original with some GRRRRRR guitars and cookie monster vocals.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 20:11 (nineteen years ago)

Deftones covering Skynyrd = Happy Shopper strip rock band circa 1987.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 20:14 (nineteen years ago)

I saw this in Smiths today but decided against buying it.
Same with Mojo because there was another fucking Beatles cover/cd.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 21:02 (nineteen years ago)

for one thing, biffy clyro are an underground band, and yes they are still going. But people like you who "follow the crowd" who are probably obsessed with bands because their "cool" wouldnt know anything about them. This song is fucking awesome and is much better than the original.
