...what is the tracklisting?

petra (star a.d.), Sunday, 28 May 2006 13:27 (nineteen years ago)

First I'd get Marianne Faithful to sing all the songs.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 28 May 2006 13:30 (nineteen years ago)

Well, I had both of these albums, yeah, I bought them both myself, but c'mon I was like 8.

Thomas Mehlt (Tokyo Ghost Stories), Sunday, 28 May 2006 17:21 (nineteen years ago)

Surely it would be less bother just to listen to Master of Puppets?

chap who would dare to be a nerd, not a geek (chap), Sunday, 28 May 2006 17:37 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I can't meet this challenge. I believe it impossible.

matt the queeg, Wednesday, 31 May 2006 00:33 (nineteen years ago)

The tracklisting would mainly consist of "Load". Way more than "Kid A"/"Amnesiac", those two albums are obviously a case of the second one being second rate leftovers from the sessions for the first one.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 00:37 (nineteen years ago)

simply take both albums and play every track at doublespeed.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Wednesday, 31 May 2006 00:39 (nineteen years ago)

Geir surprisingly OTM

someone toally needs to do what Curt1s suggested though. i wonder what that would sound like. it'd be good for a laff i'm sure.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 00:59 (nineteen years ago)

I yearn for a 130 bpm Basement Jaxx cover of "Bleeding Me" - just think of the funk potential in the guitar line, and then the lyrics, with female diva backing vocals:

I'm digging my way (he's digging his way!)
I'm digging my way (he's digging his way!)
I'm diggin my way to something better (he's diggin his way to something better!)

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 01:56 (nineteen years ago)

Ned OTM, the Memory Remains 7" - with ludicrous DJ Spooky remix of For Whom The Bell Tolls on the b-side! - is all anyone needs.

Hamster of Legend (J3ff T.), Tuesday, 10 July 2012 18:38 (twelve years ago)

why has no one attempted this?

Poliopolice, Tuesday, 10 July 2012 20:24 (twelve years ago)

the whole album should be that 'la la la laaaa la la la la la laaaaaa' thing by Marianne Faithful.

Poliopolice, Tuesday, 10 July 2012 20:25 (twelve years ago)

When Load came out my favourite track off it was The House That Jack Built. I'm listening to it right now for the first time in over ten years and it sounds pretty fucking turgid and aimless. The guitar tone is shamefully weak.

embarrassed to remember that reload may have been the second album I ever bought, and that I owned CD singles from load and reload

乒乓, Wednesday, 19 December 2012 00:41 (twelve years ago)

First I'd get Marianne Faithful to sing all the songs.

Devil's Dance coulda been a black album tune I think (makes sense considering it was the earliest one written besides 2x4).

"Thorn within" is ok for stealing a Danzig riff.

I do like "Low Man's Lyric".

maybe "Fixxer".

u on yr own with the rest. I think "Better Than You" would be on mine.

Charles "Butt" Stanton (Neanderthal), Friday, 7 July 2017 00:12 (seven years ago)

My initial reaction was a bit weird because I didn't really listen to metal other than Metallica/Pantera/Megadeth at the time, and didn't even have all of the Metallica albums.

remember staying up the night "Until It Sleeps" dropped and being confused, but it was more at the production, the saturated guitar sound, and the really weird clean riff. I thought James sounded good and the melody was good though.

remember hearing "Poor Twisted Me" next and thinking it was the worst Metallica song I ever heard. yet I wound up liking it for a bit.

I still think the cries of "sellout/alternative" are a bit off because it's definitely not alternative rock, and Kirk was pretty much listening to blues/jazz/Hendrix and very much not metal at the time. I don't think James was that into it though at the time which explains why he overcompensated while he defended it.

Charles "Butt" Stanton (Neanderthal), Friday, 7 July 2017 00:17 (seven years ago)

lol listening to "Cure" right now and I forgot it had the Billie Jean drumbeat

Charles "Butt" Stanton (Neanderthal), Friday, 7 July 2017 00:18 (seven years ago)

lol "Devil's Dance" intro bassline sounds like the theme song to Fraggle Rock

Charles "Butt" Stanton (Neanderthal), Friday, 7 July 2017 00:36 (seven years ago)

The version in my iPod goes:

Fuel
Ain't My Bitch
King Nothing
Until It Sleeps
Hero of the Day
Mama Said
The Memory Remains
Carpe Diem Baby
Fixxxer
The Outlaw Torn

grawlix (unperson), Friday, 7 July 2017 00:56 (seven years ago)

mine is correct

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Friday, 7 July 2017 02:25 (seven years ago)

These might've been the biggest New Jerseys in rock history. "Unforgiven II" was so, so awful and it was on the radio CONSTANTLY.

Mr. Snrub, Friday, 7 July 2017 11:00 (seven years ago)

p sure the Black Album was the New Jersey, these albums were the Van Halen 3s

Charles "Butt" Stanton (Neanderthal), Friday, 7 July 2017 12:45 (seven years ago)

Brad, you should set your version of the album as a Spotify playlist. I might actually take the opportunity to listen to these songs for the first time in 15 years. (I had them both on vinyl when I was in high school. They were mastered in such a way that the bass would vibrate the lid of my turntable no matter how quietly I played them-- in fact, the lid rattled if I played them with the speakers completely off.)

Guy Pidgeotto (Tom Violence), Friday, 7 July 2017 18:47 (seven years ago)

"Cure" made me laugh last night

Charles "Butt" Stanton (Neanderthal), Friday, 7 July 2017 18:57 (seven years ago)

i will admit that my version incorporates the three long sludgy songs and any sensible person condensing both records would at least omit one (maybe "bleeding me" or "fixxer," it could never be "outlaw torn" imo which is an incredible metallica song from any angle and v deserving of standing next to their earlier work) and that i think i am the only person on earth who loooooves "thorn within" (the riff is a danzig rip? it's an amazing riff)

anyway, spotify link forthcoming

Nah, I like 'Thorn Within' too! I actually like pretty much most of Load ... I'd probably only really cut 'Poor Twisted Me' and add the unedited version of 'The Outlaw Torn' ... 'Cure' is one of the lesser tracks, but there's stuff on Reload I like less.

My own Load/Reload playlist goes:
Fuel
Sleeps
Devil's
King
Memory
Bitch
Disappear
Hero
Bleeding
Fixxxer

That's 54 minutes of almost three hours of music, and every track is good to great. But when I listened to that playlist all the way through the other day, it was still fucking depressing.
