This is in my save for later cart (and I didn't plan the synchronicity of the first three):

Soft Boys "Underwater Moonlight" (are the bonus tracks worth having?)
Spoon "Kill The Moonlight"
Twilight Singers "Andiamo"
Witch "Witch"
Eagles of Death Metal "Death by Sexy"
The Minus 5 "(The Gun Album)"
Bjork "Music from Drawing Restraint 9"

Feel free to offer other suggestions...
Hot Snakes "Suicide Invoice"

Matt Carlson (mattsoncarlhew), Sunday, 28 May 2006 13:55 (nineteen years ago)

Wooden Wand And The Vanishing Voice "Gypsy Freedom"
Ted Leo / Pharmacists "The Tyranny Of Distance"
Aesop Rock "Labor Days"
DJ /rupture "Minesweeper Suite"
The Danielson Famile "Tri - Danielson (Alpha)"
The Black Heart Procession "Spell"

... And apparentley the free trials end this month too.

Large chunks of the LTM catalog (The Room being especially worthwhile)...

One album that's available on eMusic and nowhere else (aside from vinyl) is Kim Fowley's "Sunset Boulevard" which is one of his best. I'd love to see a list of eMusic-only albums that are worth getting...they're also the only legit source for live US Maple.

root 70, "heaps dub."

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Monday, 8 January 2007 04:17 (nineteen years ago)

They have the Mingus "UCLA" thing, right? Don't skimp on anything that looks like a really short track, either -- it's a big part of the experience.

"If we can't play together, then who's gonna play with us?!"

A Radio Picture (Rrrickey), Monday, 8 January 2007 10:33 (nineteen years ago)

one year passes...

I'm running out of stuff I really want to get.

Last thing I liked was Andrew Pekler - Strings + Feedback which is remixes of Morton Feldman compositions.

Other recent downloads include a boring Mushroom album, a meh Henry Cow thing, and a pretty good Everley Bros. record.

What should I download?

Hurting 2, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 05:00 (eighteen years ago)

there's a recording of 'music for 18 musicians' done by a group called the 'grand valley state university new music ensemble.' apparently it's some kind of town/gown amateur community group that felt like talking a little steve reich! i haven't queued it up yet but all the reviews were total raves. can't wait!

gff, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 05:03 (eighteen years ago)

from rural michigan, no less

gff, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 05:03 (eighteen years ago)

gff, I am in your debt! I sniped the Music for 18 Musicians recommendation and downloaded the GVSU performance. It's absolutely stunning and a wonderful story to boot. (My heart swells with Michigan pride.)

Trailer for the release can be viewed here

sleestak, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 13:42 (eighteen years ago)

oh wow. brings a tear to your eye!

The three discs from the Italians Do It Better label: After Dark (the compilation), BeatBox (by Glass Candy) and Night Drive (by The Chromatics). Or Untrue, by Burial. Or The Voice of Lightness, by Tabu Ley Rochereau. Or any one of twenty great Blood & Fire releases. There's a ton of great stuff there, in almost every genre.

I got that from them... I really like it. I already had bought the Italians stuff, but I like that it's up there - I keep hoping they might put up the other remixes and tracks from the various Italians 12"s.

I also got the ATP 7"s by Deerhoof and Fuck Buttons, both of which I like a lot.

Savannah Smiles, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 18:24 (eighteen years ago)

o yeah I've been meaning to get that Tabu Ley thing.

Hurting 2, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 19:17 (eighteen years ago)

I just remembered that the ESG stuff is available now.

Hurting 2, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 19:29 (eighteen years ago)

thing is I've been downloading a lot of afro-pop, classical, avant/out stuff, jazz and field-recording/lo-fi folk stuff. I'm kind of in the mood for something more song-driven - a good country album for example. I guess emusic isn't really the best place for that though.

Hurting 2, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 19:48 (eighteen years ago)

for country if you haven't gotten the Taylor Swift record yet you should.

Euler, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 19:51 (eighteen years ago)

I just remembered that the ESG stuff is available now.

Yeah, eMusic got a few Soul Jazz titles (incl. the ESG discs and the two Box of Dub discs). I'm hoping they get more from that label.

Not sure about country (unless it's alt-country it isn't really my thing). But if you're looking for song-driven stuff -- e.g., power-pop, Balearic-type rock -- there's tons of stuff available on eMusic. For instance, in no particular order, A Mountain of One's Collected Works; anything byThe New Pornographers (e.g., Twin Cinema); Fancey's self-titled debut (he's from TNP); Super Furry Animals' Rings Around the World (not really my thing, but still. . .); anything by Spoon; anything by The Clientele (e.g., God Save The Clientele); The Go-Betweens' 16 Lovers Lane; The National's Boxer; among others.

Anyway, that's just stuff off the top of my head (and currently on my iPod, downloaded from eMusic).

Everything is Highlighted (Hurting 2), Sunday, 12 October 2008 16:00 (seventeen years ago)

the other day i picked up the leningrad philharmonic doing beethoven's piano concertos 1 and 2, and max richter's "the blue notebooks", the latter of which i've been meaning to get for ages. on my first listen, the richter sounded slightly glitchy in parts -- might have been my ears/iPhone/whatever, rather than the files themselves. if it is the files, though, i'm screwed, because eMusic, much as i like their service, are the single worst bunch of dicks i've ever dealt with on a customer-service front, and when i remember this i do think: why do i give these twats my money again?

rant over.

easy, lionel (grimly fiendish), Sunday, 12 October 2008 16:28 (seventeen years ago)

i agree on some level - i've got maybe four or five albums with glitches on them, and their response is just to pull the track. i realise in most cases it's not that straightforward to just re-rip the track but even still. invariably i can get hold of a glitch free track through other means

also: everyone (outside of Aussie, where it's not available) needs to go & download the reish of rodriguez' 'cold fact'

thereminimum chips (electricsound), Sunday, 12 October 2008 22:15 (seventeen years ago)

you know what? i have 12 tracks remaining. i'm going to do just that. right now. nice one: thank you.

easy, lionel (grimly fiendish), Sunday, 12 October 2008 22:26 (seventeen years ago)

Another "thanks" for the Rodriguez recommendation. 12 tracks well spent.

o. nate, Tuesday, 14 October 2008 18:21 (seventeen years ago)

Lotus Pool 7" by Illyah Kuryahkin - great 2 tracks to burn off those leftover dls.

hugo, Tuesday, 14 October 2008 20:53 (seventeen years ago)

yeh, that rodriguez album is fucking great. i owe you one!

easy, lionel (grimly fiendish), Tuesday, 14 October 2008 22:35 (seventeen years ago)
