Dälek: Premature C/D?

While I doubt their best work has yet to be seen, I'm going to go out on a limb and claim that this outfit is a classic in the making. They're the world's first krauty/nowavey/industrialish/vaguely shoegazing hip hop group, and they're pretty pissed off and political (in a good way) to boot. Classic.

And for conversation's sake, what's their best album iyo?

I kinda like the Negro Necro Nekros EP.

max (maxreax), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 03:01 (nineteen years ago)

i love dalek. their last one absence was all right, but i prefer from filthy tongue of gods and griots

latebloomer (latebloomer), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 03:03 (nineteen years ago)

They're real nice guys, too, BTW. I saw 'em a couple years ago and got in a conversation about the correct pronunciation of the band name, and then promptly forget what I was told.

you will remember when the time is right, my son

latebloomer (latebloomer), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 03:07 (nineteen years ago)

there is more here too:

rfi:dalek (dark new jersey hip hop or something)

but, anyway, buy everything.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 03:23 (nineteen years ago)

I recall reading that the pronunciation should be like "dialect" with sort of a silent "t."

Negro Necro Nekros is great.

re: They're the world's first krauty/nowavey/industrialish/vaguely shoegazing hip hop group

oi! remember Scorn !

DJ Martian (djmartian), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 11:55 (nineteen years ago)

Did Scorn ever have MCs? I forget.

Dalek are some of the nicest guys I've met in music.

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 12:17 (nineteen years ago)

Second (third, fourth, fifth?) the 'they are amazingly lovely people' sentiment. I must confess that I haven't ever got round to buying one of their albums, although I've seen them live three or four times and I know they are a resounding Classic.

emil.y (emil.y), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 13:14 (nineteen years ago)

Hay you checked out the Dalek vs Dalek 7"? Its pretty dope. Dalek the band cut a track then got Dalek the artist to do the art work. If I get the time I will post a picture of it. I think its out on Tone Arm records.

Dj Icey Mike (Dj Icey Mike), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 14:47 (nineteen years ago)

Absence was my number one album of 2005. They really harnessed their noisemaking abilities with that one. If they actually do get BETTER, I think my head will explode. Though DJ Still isn't in the group anymore, and I thought he was a really important touch, despite being clearly the "third member"

Whiney G. Weingarten (whineyg), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 15:09 (nineteen years ago)

is this actually rap? who does it sound like?

and what (ooo), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 15:10 (nineteen years ago)

Someone on here once compared them to New Kingdom, which I can see.

dalek are amazing
im surprised no one has mentioned their collaborations with Faust. The 7" on bomb mitte and full-length are massive.
Also the guys themselves are pretty kickass. We drank heavily until at least 7 in the morning after one performance during their griots tour, and they have the encyclopedic record-geek knowledge you'd expect from a band that draws upon so many influences. They ended up crashing at my friend's place, and he claims to have found a few used prophylactics in his shower, supposedly from a certain member of the band who isn't with them any more.
woulda thought they'd have smoked more weed, though.

capnkickass (gloriagaynor), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 18:36 (nineteen years ago)

They are one of the loudest bands EVER. haha OMG dude SCREAMS into his NEEDLE.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 18:41 (nineteen years ago)

They are kinda like MBV colab'ing with Chuck D.

Where's that hilarious picture of them with the pie chart!?!?!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 18:42 (nineteen years ago)

oi! remember Scorn !

As in Mick Harris? Certainly everything else was in place, but there's generally a lack of MCs on Scorn's recordings.

James Slone (Freon Trotsky), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 01:16 (nineteen years ago)

Oops. X-Post!

James Slone (Freon Trotsky), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 01:17 (nineteen years ago)

That Faust collaboration is indeed amazing.

James Slone (Freon Trotsky), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 05:26 (nineteen years ago)

Punishingly loud live act, esp. in a small club.

cdwill (cdwill), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 05:56 (nineteen years ago)
