Tell Me Something about Frankie Valli's "Can't Take Me Eyes Off You"

I think what I like most about this song, actually, is the backing arrangement--for example, the brass section right before the "I Love You Baby!" part, and also the way the string section just seems to melt on the last "You're just too good to be true" verse. The arrangement really takes an already good song to a whole new level.

Who else has covered this song? Do any other covers come anywhere near the majesty of the original?

Pet Shop Boys segue into it from 'Where The Streets Have No Name' and I think it's great what they did with it but I suppose also lacking something compared to the original - not quite as euphoric and unbridled somehow.

The Manics did a version of it (one of the extra tracks on the Australia single). That, and the Andy Williams one, are the only two I own.

The Blade Runner theme has the same tune. I'm surprised Vangelis hasn't been sued.

(the Manics one is not majestic at all, but it's very pleasant. It was from that era when they were covering loads of unlikely stuff in a pleasant manner - Bright Eyes, Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head, Velocity Girl etc)

Lauryn Hill did the best cover of this song.

Written by Valli's former Four Seasons homeboy Bob Gaudio, along with Bob ("Music to Watch Girls By") Crewe.

shiina ringo does a completely bombastic metal version of this with a chorus of kazoos handling the main riff that leads into the chorus

it's a b-side on her "Tsumi to Batsu" cd single

I, too, enjoy that sustained brass chord just prior to the chorus. Works just like a diving board.
