The Sign isn't part of the pop canon?

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 21:44 (nineteen years ago)

Isn't this almost every best selling album? (Hootie and the Blowfish comes immediately to mind)

punis (punis), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 21:52 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, pfunkboy OTM.. the sign is as canonical as canonical gets, i think. even i love that shit and i hate eurotrash music!

Isn't this almost every best selling album?

Some best selling albums, such as "Thriller", "Saturday Night Fever" and "Can't Slow Down" have an increasing tendency to appear in those "best of all time" lists, particularly if they feature more than just 100 albums.

Saturday Night fever is a compilation. A very good one too.

This thread seems pointless.

'Thriller' got an amazing amount of slack from critics in its time; I'd say it had a place in the canon from Day One.

Ant is right; there are too many to list.

Well, if, for instance, you are looking for multi million selling albums that are not even in the Acclaimed Music Top 2500, there aren't that many left.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Thursday, 1 June 2006 17:50 (nineteen years ago)

I don't want to talk about Ace of Base anymore. Wait, scratch that. It's the ONLY thing I want to do. And I'm HELLA sick of Ant's badmouthing people's threads! Tell that guy to get a face lift fong style.

What about smooth jazz? Sade, Boney James, etc. have sold shitloads of albums. Of course, the only smooth jazzer really worth anything is Sade, but that goes without saying. Goddamn, I love Sade.

that billy ray cyrus album. actually, pretty much any big hit country album ever.

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Friday, 2 June 2006 00:09 (nineteen years ago)

I don't think there is one multi million selling Sade album other than "Diamond Life", which does occasionally show up in that kind of lists.

Mr. Snrub OTM about Billy Ray Cyrus though (and also Garth Brooks even though "No Fences" somehow has managed to lure itself into the Acclaimed Music chart)

Neither is Garth Brooks "rock."
