Yeah! Oh wait. (Is his picture *supposed* to be reminding me of Devendra? Like his name?)

I thought this was going to be about a Tribute to a Tribute to Jack Johnson.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 1 June 2006 19:17 (eighteen years ago)

What do you mean "one Jack Johnson"? Bedouin Soundclash, people!

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 1 June 2006 19:36 (eighteen years ago)

Ned, you live in the OC and you've JUST heard of Donovan Frankenreiter?

He's been a fixture on the surfing circuit for the past 15 years. I think this is his 3rd record.

Ned, you live in the OC and you've JUST heard of Donovan Frankenreiter?

Yeah, and I'm so obviously a surfer too.

god my eyes hurt from reading so much shit about Donovon Frankenfucker. Let's talk about someone real, like the new Adiann Quinn album produced by Alan Braxe and Fred Falke. For the love of GOD dl "Snack Attack Six Pack." Legendary shit.

Him and Jack Johnson strike me as the sort of artists who would have a lot of random googlers for fans. Just sayin.

i had never heard of him until two days ago, and at first glance i saw both donovan and yes, dr. frank-n-furter. disappointed to realize it was neither one of them, nor some horrible combination thereof.

i sat two tables away from JJ at the Na Hoku HanoHano Awards last nite. thought about starting a thread... but doubt there would be anyone to talk about it with.

grady (grady), Friday, 2 June 2006 01:20 (eighteen years ago)

Ha, since when is one of any big-selling artist enough?

Abbadavid Berman (Hurting), Friday, 2 June 2006 01:34 (eighteen years ago)

oh, i meant a thread about how i (after living in Hawaii for only a month and not knowing anything about hawaiian music) got the chance to attend what is essentially the Hawaiian Grammies.

It was pretty interesting. Pleople in Tuxedos and people in jeans and flip-flops.

grady (grady), Friday, 2 June 2006 01:38 (eighteen years ago)

oh, disregard Abbadavid.... now i see that you were answering the thread's title... nevermind.

grady (grady), Friday, 2 June 2006 01:39 (eighteen years ago)

after living in Hawaii for only a month

I didn't know you ended up there, Grady! I need to pay attention more.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 2 June 2006 01:54 (eighteen years ago)

indeed.

i now live in the land of Jack Johnson: Best Rock Album.

grady (grady), Friday, 2 June 2006 02:54 (eighteen years ago)

Matt Costa is another one of these. I only remembered his name cos it's in the Metro that's on my lap now. He's sold out the Barfly down the road without me ever having heard of him, or knowing that the gig was taking place AND his album is called 'Songs We Sing' so basically, I'm feeling a mild rage as I type.

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Friday, 2 June 2006 08:24 (eighteen years ago)

three weeks pass...
Well, Matt Costa has Jack Johnson on his album too, so garnering fans nowadays is sadly as simple as a JJ duet.

Donovan Frankenreiter isn't a great singer-songwriter, but in Kelly Slater's Pro Surfer his character is pretty good.
