This is the most insane release I have ever seen

Okay, maybe the Merzbow Mercedes beats it. Maybe.

Amazon.fr is selling a Johnny Hallyday singles collection. Not a double CD, or a box set, or anything- oh no. This is a tower of 276 CD-singles for the measly pittance of 693 Euros (and 68 Euroettes, or Europence, or whatever it is that the currency is subdivided into).

BEHOLD the Babel of our modern age!

my god that is amazing. how many solid days worth of music is it?
even at 10 minutes a single, that's 46 hours' worth

All that cardboard and aluminum -- just crazy. I've never heard a note of Johnny Hallyday -- maybe this would be a good introduction? ;-)

Mark (MarkR), Thursday, 1 June 2006 19:34 (nineteen years ago)

is it 276 or 176 ?

"Coffret Tour de 276 CD singles"
vs.
"Nombre de disques : 176"

StanM (StanM), Thursday, 1 June 2006 19:36 (nineteen years ago)

OK, should have checked his official site first, it's 276 singles. (500 tracks)

They should sell this in furniture stores.

He's the archetypical Elvis/leather jacket/motorbike/James Dean/... style rocker in France.

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Thursday, 1 June 2006 21:31 (nineteen years ago)

He was also in L'Homme Du Train, which they should totally add as a bonus DVD to this.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 1 June 2006 21:33 (nineteen years ago)

This is shit. This is awesome. I WILL have it.

Pat Triptych Spenser (noodle vague), Thursday, 1 June 2006 21:34 (nineteen years ago)

Tour De Johnny!

Sadly, dude sucks. Although he was good in The Man On The Train.

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Thursday, 1 June 2006 21:38 (nineteen years ago)

I hate "vinyl single" reproductions on CD. Why? Why have 2 songs a disc? It is absolutely, insanely silly.

I reject this.

Joseph B. Cowart (flamingrev), Thursday, 1 June 2006 22:51 (nineteen years ago)

As ever this is the french living in that strange little world of theirs. The guy's music is dire and really doesn't deserve this kind of treatment.

tolstoy (tolstoy), Friday, 2 June 2006 04:32 (nineteen years ago)

Johnny Hallyday is my go-to guy when I need an example to rebut haters who claim Gainsbourg is just an ugly marginally talented dude no one outside of France really likes. Because Johnny Hallyday is, for the most part, that man.

Telephonething (Telephonething), Friday, 2 June 2006 04:36 (nineteen years ago)

...oh my god I am incoherent. Too many clauses in that first sentence; damn you, The Demon Rum.
