Beach Boys biographies

I've decided that maybe I should get around to reading one... I'm a huge fan, read all of David Leaf's liner notes in the 2-fer Capital CD reissues, read Dominic Priore's "Look! Listen! Smile! Vibrate!", ordered a copy of that hilariously awesome CBS TV movie, etc. But I've never bothered with any of the official book-length bios... I know there's a bunch, anyone got any recommendations?

steven gaines' "heroes and villains" is probably the sleaziest and most downbeat band bio ever - i read it in one day when i was 15 and it really bummed me out. it starts off with dennis drowning, and then it gets worse: evil old murry kicking the crap out of his kids, mike love stealing dennis's wife (or something like that), dennis hanging out with manson, the band going from the most acclaimed band in the world to a pathetic oldies act in the span of like 50 pages, and brian - well, you know.

Beach Boys = not a way to live life.

I'm not a huge Timothy White fan, but he wrote a couple of great books. "The Nearest Faraway Place" is one of them.
