I haven't heard the Herbert yet. They're all probly right tho.

breathny spears let me see the sex that you did. (noodle vague), Friday, 2 June 2006 13:11 (nineteen years ago)

Herbert (second hand, it's only half-good, not even great)

Booka Shade - Night Falls 12"

fandango (fandango), Friday, 2 June 2006 13:15 (nineteen years ago)

ILM hivemind in full effect.

jimnaseum (jimnaseum), Friday, 2 June 2006 13:16 (nineteen years ago)

(I wasn't feeling the Booka Shade as an album, sorry)

fandango (fandango), Friday, 2 June 2006 13:17 (nineteen years ago)

yeah you're all fucking nuts

jewess harvell (dubplatestyle), Friday, 2 June 2006 13:31 (nineteen years ago)

I have heard both. I like Scale. Its nice when the sun is shining, although it's quite civilised, discerning adult listening :P.

Movements is an oustanding album. White Rooms, Night Falls, Pong Pang are all great.

rchinn (rchinn), Friday, 2 June 2006 13:34 (nineteen years ago)

orchestra of bubbles before either of the other two, if that helps break the hivemind slightly.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 2 June 2006 13:38 (nineteen years ago)

are the other tracks not great? (xpost)

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 2 June 2006 13:41 (nineteen years ago)

Vocally, Jess is a constant delight.

natedey (ndeyoung), Friday, 2 June 2006 13:42 (nineteen years ago)

It's one of those albums where the highlights don't stand out enough from the so-so stuff, and even though none of it is bad the average ends up unexciting.

And I'd take the dancier stuff off Silent Shout over pretty much anything from the Booka Shade album if we're breaking it down track-by-track.

finney and i, forever linked and yet forever apart

It's one of those albums where the highlights don't stand out enough from the so-so stuff, and even though none of it is bad the average ends up unexciting.

Unexciting because its flow is sort of seamless. Movements is a bit like one of those water rides at an amusement park where you just float in an inner-tube down a man-made river. It is pleasant enough, but by the end it's monotonous, leaving the listener a bit bored. Thus, I'd say go with the Herbert and if you have enough dough, get the "In White Rooms" single.

trees (treesessplode), Friday, 2 June 2006 14:15 (nineteen years ago)

I probably need to give the Herbert more listens fwiw, the "second hand" bit is just me revealing my utter tightness, a bit harsh without that context.

fandango (fandango), Friday, 2 June 2006 14:22 (nineteen years ago)

These arguments are almost void when you realize that not everyone heard "Body Language" and "Mandarine Girl" pre-album. They may not be the hot original versions, but leaving them out of a list of good tracks is ridiculous.

Haven't heard the Herbert, no judgement there as yet.

The In White Rooms single was what I was thinking of upthread... doesn't seem to have the original mix though http://www.discogs.com/release/693199 oh well.

The reworkings are quite different though... enough that I still prefer hearing them on the M.A.n.D.Y. Body Language mix.

Herbert's "Scale" is amazing, especially tracks 8 - 10 where a lot of interesting arrangements are more prominent and a little more experimental than the first half of the album. However, track 3, "Moving like a train" is possibly the funnest song i've heard this year.

you should buy Uusitalo's "Tulenkantaja".

jed_ (jed), Friday, 2 June 2006 15:35 (nineteen years ago)

actually, i dunno. Jess makes that new herbert record some pretty great.

jed_ (jed), Friday, 2 June 2006 15:40 (nineteen years ago)

both these albums are well worth buying

lemin (lemin), Friday, 2 June 2006 15:41 (nineteen years ago)

Or Unai's Love Moderne? Soylent Green's La Forca del Destino?

Too many albums, so little time.

Jess makes hyperbolic seem a little boring - i just wish the trio of my fav writers could've given me more to chew today on p4k.

natedey (ndeyoung), Friday, 2 June 2006 15:43 (nineteen years ago)

If we're talking b/w Herbert and Uusitalo, I'd go for Uusitalo... but that might just be me.

La Forca... is astounding. That above all the rest.

trees (treesessplode), Friday, 2 June 2006 15:45 (nineteen years ago)

Movements has some awesome tracks on it. I was happy with it just for the album remixes of mandarine girl and body language. Night falls and white room make it pretty awesome as well. That said it does seem to have some filler.

Herbert's albums have not been up to snuff recently, but seems like word on the boards is that it is good. Vahid sung its praises for a bit there.
