Issues with my Donna Summer "Bad Girls" LP

$2 near mint score at the local thrift

Issue 1: Side 1 and 4 are on the same disc, while side 2 and 3 are the same disc? If I want to play the album from begining to end, I must play the first side of disc 1 and change to disc 2 play both sides then return back to disc 1 and play the second disc. Why is this?

Issue 2: Is that Moroder in the gold rim sunglasees and the open trench coat with Summer reaching in with a smile? (top of the right panel of the gatefold)

That's standard issue for multi-disc LPs. Used to be you could stack both discs on your turntable, so when Side 1 was done Side 2 would drop down and play automatically. Then you'd turn both discs over and play Sides 3 and 4 in succession. I think my parents' Messiah had discs containing Sides 1 and 6, 2 and 5, and 3 and 4.

i see Dr. Phil, thanks for the clarification. And I thought it was some mis-press. Are there contemporary turntables that can pull this off?

Dude! I see this as a FEATURE and not an issue.

Side 1 and 4 are the club-friendly sides of the album.. Sides 2 and 3 are the mellower, ballady sides of the album. Sounds like an archaic side assignment/cum useful vinyl convenience to me.

Yeah, I have a bunch of old multi-disc sets -- Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" comes to mind -- with sides laid out like the Messiah listed above.

Most record collectors decided years ago that stacking 'em up so the records grind against each other was probably not the best for the vinyl, hence the switch to single play tables.

Well, it's around $4 used for a nice copy, and you actually get TWO LPs!

*gasp*

Yeah, but it would be more exciting if you could get a free stacking record player with purchase.

See, if the vinyl mafia hadn't shunned 8-tracks, none of this would be an issue.
