She went into politics.

keyth (keyth), Monday, 5 June 2006 22:22 (nineteen years ago)

Hi Keyth

I certainly do, although I've been quite busy recently.

After last years disastrous Sixth Form album (along with Continuous Elecrtric Now), I/we had a break. I'm currently working on Hideki Kaji and Tomorrow's World albums.

Hopefully we'll do something new in the autumn. I'll put more info up asap:

I've never worked with him ... he's Siesta's house producer, whereas I've been the if... / Reverie equivalent, albeit far, far less polished ;-). I really like his stuff: Rita Calypso is a personal favourite. I'll check out the cristina georgina album.

Cheers

Jez

Jez, those Death By Chocolate albums are genius - The Land Of Chocolate is one of those tracks I always play people when they come for dinner (yeah, I know...).
I presume we're unlikely to hear any more of that particular - uh - concept, then?

I'm intrigued, Jez, if you have a moment, to find out what it was like to work with Simon Turner. I was a massive King Of Luxembourg fan years back (still am), and even then, Simon had quite an interesting and colourful past (I think Britt Ekland, Jonathan King and Adam Ant were all involved!!!). I thought it was a shame that he turned his back on pop music quite so abruptly but hey... (I did enjoy the LoveLetter stuff though!!)

David - the CD's on it's way.

Jez (Jez), Thursday, 8 June 2006 14:26 (nineteen years ago)

Hi Kim

Well, it was odd for me hearing him sing, as I'm also a fan ... his voice hasn't changed in 35 years. He's a bit of a dandy, as you can imagine ... we shared a bottle of red wine. He insisted on adding a guitar solo and mucking about - recording stuff into a walkman and then back through the mic at a different speed. Great stuff! I learned a lot from him and Louis Philippe about recording: that it is acceptable to be a perfectionist and experiment/mess around.

You've had some good mentors there Jez. Keep up the good work. Maybe you should get Bad Dream Fancy Dress back in the studio too!!!

Kim Tortoise (petergat), Thursday, 8 June 2006 15:31 (nineteen years ago)

I never got to meet them, but ST said they were a scream to work with.

Jez (Jez), Thursday, 8 June 2006 16:03 (nineteen years ago)

Thanks Jez - I'm nicely anticipatory...

Had forgotten to check up on SFT in a while, and was surprised to see that he put out an album last year that I completely missed. Real pain in the ass to keep up w/his discography, esp. in the US. A lot of his soundtrack for "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead" was great. Found an amusingly snarky review of the newer one "Lana Lara Lata." I'll probably buy it anyway.

Doesn't sound like there's a Smash Hit Wonder on that one then!!!! Actually, there's a very good Simon Turner pop moment on the Fantastic Plastic Machine album Luxury on Bungalow Records. The track is called Bossa for Jackie. His voice is majestic as always and actually the rest of the album is quite good too. Definitely worth hunting down if you don't know it.

jez, is the sleeper of this board, he probably has loads of fabulous tales but he's off quietly doing his thing. i remember when bid was gonna do a fantastic everlasting gobstopper record, i don't think it will happen anymore.
