Jack Battery-Pack (Jack Battery-Pack), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 04:43 (nineteen years ago)

>>while US legend Scott Walker

Ha-ha. More Americans prefer Soupy Sales. Quaint Britisher judges/doods.

Urnst Kouch (Urnst Kouch), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 05:42 (nineteen years ago)

Scott Walker turned up to receive his award. One of the Mary Chain didn't, and the other one was glad he hadn't.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 06:23 (nineteen years ago)

Cash, who died two years ago, was also nominated for the Mojo inspiration award, but lost out to the Buzzcocks.

Why did I giggle at that?

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 08:01 (nineteen years ago)

"Buzzcocks have avoided becoming a nostalgia act, keeping their work fresh and vital... Their impact on the likes of Nirvana, Green Day and Ash is evident".

Yes, all three well known for their freshness and vitality.

NickB (NickB), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 08:12 (nineteen years ago)

I was half-listening to LBC at three in the morning the other night, unable to sleep, and Dave Bartram Out Of Showaddywaddy came on and said that his favourite rock group was Green Day. So perhaps Showaddywaddy should have got the inspiration award.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 08:14 (nineteen years ago)

The Three Steps Award, for 'waddy!

tiit (tiit), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 09:42 (nineteen years ago)

One of the Mary Chain didn't, and the other one was glad he hadn't.

OK, I'll bite. Whyzat?

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 09:48 (nineteen years ago)

Not exciting, alas. William Reid didn't turn up and Jim Reid said he was glad he hadn't. Apparently they have not spoken to each other since 1998. Although Bobby Gillespie was present at the ceremony, taking a welcome break from filming Scrapheap Challenge.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 09:49 (nineteen years ago)

Who Are You... The Nerve... I Wanna Get Out, I Wanna Get Out (Dada), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 10:44 (nineteen years ago)

Who isnt?

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 10:46 (nineteen years ago)

Corinne Bailey Rae is so dull and perceived as earnest by the establishment - I can foresee the groans on ILM when the Mercury Music Nominations are announced.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 10:46 (nineteen years ago)

The Jesus and Mary Chain - Some Candy Talking single is now 20 years old !

DJ Martian (djmartian), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 10:55 (nineteen years ago)

The ceremony was held at Shoreditch Town Hall in London on Monday.

I waked past this last night and saw Rod Stewart arriving, signing a few autographs. But there wasn't that big a crowd outside. Odd choice of venue.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 11:18 (nineteen years ago)

Hosegate Town Hall not available?

James Brown only got something like 1 top 10 hit in the US. Doesn't mean to say he isn't a legend either.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 11:25 (nineteen years ago)

I think James Brown is considerably more of a legend in the US than Scott Walker - by a factor of several million at least

Who Are You... The Nerve... I Wanna Get Out, I Wanna Get Out (Dada), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 11:30 (nineteen years ago)

James Brown only got something like 1 top 10 hit in the UK as well - "Living In America (From The Motion Picture Rocky IV)." It would appear from the UK charts that the Bachelors are far more legendary than he, as indeed are Red Box.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 11:33 (nineteen years ago)

The Bachelors, where is their Mojo award?

Who Are You... The Nerve... I Wanna Get Out, I Wanna Get Out (Dada), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 11:37 (nineteen years ago)

corinne bailey dull dull dull

why have the readers vote for an award when you have 600000 copies sold (corinne) vs not very many (abo, teddy etc)

STUPID

FACEBRACE (FACEBRACE), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 11:39 (nineteen years ago)

Konal Doddz (blueski), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 11:43 (nineteen years ago)

DJ Martian (djmartian), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 11:43 (nineteen years ago)

I can't, I'm on their blacklist.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 11:44 (nineteen years ago)

The Mojo Icon = Leapy Lee

DJ Martian (djmartian), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 11:48 (nineteen years ago)

The Mojo Best New Act Award = Christian

The Mojo Roots Award = Calum Kennedy

The Mojo Inspiration Award = Glen Daly

Who Are You... The Nerve... I Wanna Get Out, I Wanna Get Out (Dada), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 11:49 (nineteen years ago)

Christian once threw the Jesus and Mary Chain out of his club (Alice in Wonderland, in East Kilbride). "My customers were very upset," quipped the ex-lead singer of the Chris McClure Set. "Many of them are young married couples. We like to keep things quiet around here."

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 11:50 (nineteen years ago)

Mojo should have got him to present the JAMC with their award (like Lou Reed inducting Frank Zappa into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame)

Who Are You... The Nerve... I Wanna Get Out, I Wanna Get Out (Dada), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 11:53 (nineteen years ago)

Quipped Christian at the ceremony: "Aye, I gave the boys their first break way back in 1983 when they were only wee lads of, ooh, 40. They were a right scruffy pair but I knew they were heading for the top. I said to them, carry on like this lads and you'll be headlining at Bailleston Miners' Welfare Club in six months!"

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 12:00 (nineteen years ago)

If only JAMC had been on we have a dream with Christian.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 12:05 (nineteen years ago)

Tragically, they failed the audition.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 12:12 (nineteen years ago)

They shouldve kept John Gordon Sinclair on drums then.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 12:22 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, why did he have to go off and form Primal Scream?

Who Are You... The Nerve... I Wanna Get Out, I Wanna Get Out (Dada), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 12:23 (nineteen years ago)

Clare Grogan wouldn't have him.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 12:31 (nineteen years ago)

Neither did Dee Hepburn.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 13:05 (nineteen years ago)

Or Kate Moss

Who Are You... The Nerve... I Wanna Get Out, I Wanna Get Out (Dada), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 13:06 (nineteen years ago)

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/41493000/jpg/_41493070_scotland_bbc_203.jpg

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 13:31 (nineteen years ago)

I should have thought that was obvious...

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 13:32 (nineteen years ago)

Did you ever have an alan rough perm, Marcello?

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 14:08 (nineteen years ago)

It was compulsory for all males in Scotland between the years of 1978 and 1982

Who Are You... The Nerve... I Wanna Get Out, I Wanna Get Out (Dada), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 14:12 (nineteen years ago)

Which ones were Dadaismus and Marcello?

they were Love & Money and Hipsway fans in the 80s !

DJ Martian (djmartian), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 14:13 (nineteen years ago)

I didnt have one. Did you have to be born before 1973?
x-post

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 14:14 (nineteen years ago)

Your parents must have shielded you when the Council Perm Van came round

Who Are You... The Nerve... I Wanna Get Out, I Wanna Get Out (Dada), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 14:15 (nineteen years ago)

And when the mullet van came too.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 14:32 (nineteen years ago)

Boring white people awards.

astronautagogo (astronautagogo), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 18:20 (nineteen years ago)

Red Box > James Brown. James Brown never didn't anything with as much singalong capabilities as the song about the centre of the earth.
