Robert Hilburn's take on the Los Angeles ATP

Is here LA ATP (Damn I hope that works.) It seems the bigger name artists got most of the crowds, such that some of the halls had people outside listening on speakers. I didn't attend, did anyone here go and have anything to say about it?

I'd never read any Hilburn before. Wow.

The Blasters?

Yeah, I was about to say -- of all people to review ATP, you don't want to read *his* take on it. Or rather you do, as a good emetic.

I will post my friend ML's take on it later today. Suffice to say that the lines there were apparently appallingly worked out, so no marks to the organizers.

But David "Rock 'n' roll, or as I call it, modern music" Sefton knows what's up.

scholarly pursuits forced me to sell my ticket and my soul to study for an exam that i failed anyways. then my sonic march wire came in the post and i cried.

i never get along with crowds anyways so it was probably a Good Thing.

Where is the obligatory U2 reference? Where is the also obligatory mention of "the best rock's" power to "inspire the listener"? This longtime Hilburnologist is neither fooled nor amused by such pathetic attempts to mimic the master. Truly sad.

It was the lack of Springsteen references that tipped me off.

Tom Verlaine and Richard Lloyd displaying a smart, fluid interaction that has influenced hundreds of musicians, including U2's Edge

I've not read this guy before and don't really feel like searching out his other writings. All the stuff about academic interest is just bollocks, the setting is just co-incidental. I did amuse myself by wondering if he had been reviewing the UK one if he'd be going on about the interest in post-rock by the package holiday industry.

I much preferred ML's report too.
