selling 10,000+ CDs

Anyone interested? I'm selling about 10k CDs through eBay - rare postpunk, old soul, reggae and other odd stuff, very little you'd call "mainstream" in any way. Below is a link; I'm selling CDs about 200 at a time, so this will take forever, and this auction is all soul - mostly UK compilations, heavy on the Kent stuff. If you've got wantlists, let me know . . . every CD I don't have to type into eBay is more time for leisure!

I'm not very ebay knowledgeable, but...

If you don't sell them in 7 days, doesn't ebay charge you some money for each one? And then you have to relist them and if they don't sell, you get charged again, etc.?

"Postpunk," eh? You don't happen to have Fush You Mang by Smash Mouth, do you?

There's a listing fee on eBay - for mid-priced CDs, it's something like 45¢. You get two tries to sell something for that price. Having sold something like 3000 CDs on eBay, I've only had 10-15 items not sell after two tries, so it's not much of a risk.

I don't consider Smash Mouth "postpunk" in that they are a not terribly interesting band and are fairly conventional in most ways, whereas postpunk (to me) is loosely a genre of music in which wholly new, interesting and unique things were manifested in the wake of punk - so the Raincoats or Josef K or the Fire Engines or This Heat were postpunk, but Smash Mouth is a novelty-esque band with some vaguely "punky" influences, but essentially just a rock band. I think you can guess from this commentary that I don't have the record!

It's probably not worth it if you don't overcharge for postage, though. I could sell some Jandek and some Anthrax... you know, shit. Who's going to pay any amount for this shit that's worth the effort? Nobody, right?

How much you want for the Jandek, Uri?

Dee, do you have that Hi Rhythm CD?

The average price I get for used CDs is about $11.25. But it varies. The median price is probably closer to $9.50, but nearly every auction, I have four or five CDs that sell for $100; you can never tell.

Anecdotal aside: A CD that I had Björk sign went for $1100 on eBay. It was a bootleg CD of her (age of 12) debut album, she wrote "This is a bootleg but I still love you!" and signed her name and drew a funny face. I had a photo of her doing it, too - for proof. She asked me why I was doing this (we weren't strangers) and I told her it was for that month's rent. That sort of thing pushes the average up quite a bit!

You mean that Hi Records rhythm section thing that was released in the UK. Yeah, I think I do (actually, I know I do, I just have to figure out where it is in my many boxes.) I'll e-mail you privately . . . but keep those want lists coming, folks!
