i'd lean more towards the idea that they are the uk equivalent of dave matthews band.

keith, Tuesday, 19 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

nonono they're the UK equivalent of Powderfinger

electric sound of jim, Tuesday, 19 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

They're the UK equivalent of Travis. Seriously. It's an infinite regress thing.

Ryan, Tuesday, 19 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

More accurate to say they are the equivalent of oversweetened treacle.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 19 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No no no, they're the British equivalent of matchbox 20.

Staind is purely endogenous shit, not for export.

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Tuesday, 19 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Matchbox20 is the best comparison so far.

Lindsey B, Wednesday, 20 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ah, but STILL none of these are as bad as those assclowns Nickelback.

Nicole, Wednesday, 20 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I thought Nickleback was a joke band. Like Spinal Tap. They are funny as hell.

Ryan, Wednesday, 20 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

coldplay is the UK equivalent of Live.

di, Wednesday, 20 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sort of understand the Dave Matthews Band comparison. They remind me of Ikea furniture, unobtrusive.

nathalie, Wednesday, 20 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Lambchop are the American version of Coldplay.

Andrew L, Wednesday, 20 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Andrew youre just mean and nasty. Lambchop are good, no they are good, they must be good, they have to be good, Id heard they were good,... other American comparisons: Grandaddy maybe? No you need to look no further than Neil Young in a harvest moon, silver and gold mood. Or maybe Counting Crows though I still love August&.. and they rocked when I saw them live. Cant see the link with Live music style wise, other than they really suck and were the worst "live" act Ive ever seen -are they always this bad?

kiwi, Wednesday, 20 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Who the fucking hell are Nickelback and what are they doing at the top of my album chart?

Tom, Wednesday, 20 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I saw Nickleback on TOTP a couple of weeks ago, and was meaning to post. They are truly the worst of the worst - even worse than Staind - the singer resembles a goat and the song is a complete rip-off of Nirvana, down to the last vocal nuance. But who buys it? It seems too tame to appeal to the kids.

Also what's the bunch that were on last week - One Hundred Reasons or something - like a bad youth club band doing 'grunge' ten years too late. How does that sell?

Dr. C, Wednesday, 20 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"But who buys it? It seems too tame to appeal to the kids." Ask a Creed fan who their fav new band is...

kiwi, Wednesday, 20 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Dr C - is bang on right, Nickelback are hideous, there was a great demolition interview by Ian Winwood in Kerrang about a month ago. The band came across as a bunch of clueless dorks (they are completely unaware ofcourse) and their favourite band is Creed "they rock" woz their lame answer.

As for Hundred Reasons - about 18 months ago, they were tipped as the new big hope in brit rock - touring like mad, kerrang support etc. Then I heard them last year on the radio - and the truth was revealed a basic plain bland grungey rock band for Steve Lamacq listening dim witted teenagers - with simple sinalong songs. Hideous.

DJ Martian, Wednesday, 20 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Not quite so unaware as they may seem gentlemen, keen to learn more about music but looks like Ive stumbled onto the wrong site

kiwi, Wednesday, 20 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Actually I'm keen to learn more too - one of the things I'm keen to learn is "Why do Creed and Nickelback fans like them?" If you're a fan of Creed and Nickelback Kiwi then I'd be very interested to hear more. If not then why the high-handed I've-come-to-the-wrong-site tone?

Tom, Wednesday, 20 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I have a theory about kiwi's identity which I shall keep to myself for the moment ;)

Dr. C, Wednesday, 20 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Follow the above thread if you replace Nicklelback with Kiwi... ugly to a paranoid drug fueled brain... thought Kerrang was like Dolly Mag for metal heads.... combine with a personal love for Pearl Jam that borders on an illness(concerts in 4 diferent continents)....combine with massive musical inferiority complex = misunderstanding Sorry and no Im not a big fan of Creed though I can hum along to Nickelbacks radio single but thats all I know about them.

kiwi, Wednesday, 20 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well having already lost one friend over his liking Nickelback, on this very forum, I think it'd be polite for me not to say anything else about them ever again.

Robin Carmody, Wednesday, 20 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I thought you might at least try and break the fall but gods dice have been rolled. Time for an evacuation as we are light years apart. I guess nothings as it seems so Im off into thin air, destined for greater insignificance? What of the girl of my dreams Melissa, oh I feel a great grievance from a faceless rival. Such a sleight of hand I never knew. Alas we will soon forget our parting ways.

kiwi, Thursday, 21 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Coldplay are nothing like Staind.

emma, Thursday, 21 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I would wager that Creed's appeal is mostly in the dramatics. Lyrically, that is. And the familiarity with the music style. It's hard to contemplate without coming off condescending. What throws me off most about their appeal is the severe lack of hooks in the music. I honestly can't recall a single Creed chorus in my head right now, and I've seen their videos on MTV a thousand times.
