and because her album isn't doing so well, despite a UK top 5 single. Shame, loved the Three 6 Mafia ripoff and the title track.

shame. she's a lot better than Rihanna and probably the best rnbpop girl this decade.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 18:03 (nineteen years ago)

That sucks. It's ridiculous how easy it is to get dropped from a major nowadays.

Hindsight is 20/20, but that must sting.

is she the one that had the video with the dudes pouring black grease all over her body?

Christopher Costello (CGC), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 02:20 (nineteen years ago)

Yes Christopher.

'say i' >>> 'sos'

and milian's album is great so THERE. (haven't heard rihanna's yet but it is on its way)

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 07:05 (nineteen years ago)

Rihanna's album is only okay, though I kinda respect its perverse focus on lovers rock and folky balladness.

Haven't heard the new Milian but her last album was excellent.

Looks as though she was trying it.

How many sales do you need to get into the UK Top 5 these days? Five?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 07:17 (nineteen years ago)

i don't think the new milian is as good as it's about time - though i only realised just how start-to-finish incredible that was after a few weeks of listening - but it's certainly very strong. 'say i' and 'so amazin' are INCREDIBLE - the latter is virtually minimal techno in the same vein as ll and j-lo's 'control myself'. nice 'stay fly' pastiche/rip-off on 'who's gonna ride?', 'hot boy' is a fantastic club banger based around weird spacey noises, 'she don't know' is a lush flamenco slow jam.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 07:27 (nineteen years ago)

i didn't think any r&b albums were particularly big sellers in the uk anyway. people like beyoncé and mariah apart.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 07:28 (nineteen years ago)

They don't tend to be, unless you count borderline cases like Mariah and J-Lo. Even the Beyonce album was remaindered comparatively quickly.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 07:39 (nineteen years ago)

in what way is ll/j-lo 'minimal techno', lex?

have you heard of this thing called 'electro' (or 'sampling')?

say i' and 'so amazin' are INCREDIBLE

"Tonight" is the one that does it for me, far and away the best track on the album.

JoB (JoB), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 08:36 (nineteen years ago)

I think Milian will pick up a Euro/UK record deal pretty quickly; she's always been bigger in the UK than the US, for example (as a singles artist, at least - she's not sold that many albums anywhere). I'd bet she sells well around the Pacific Rim, too. (Besides, doesn't Anastacia need some ex-pat competition?)

Thomas Inskeep (submeat), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 14:35 (nineteen years ago)

Really? Milian has barely been heard in Scandinavia since AM to PM, and lately it's been all about Rihanna.

took me a while to register that this wasn't a putative abba cover.
