Hi.
What do you think about the development of electronic music? I am currently writing a work on that matter.

As far as I am concerned, living in Vienna, the situation is really ... desperate.

Noone can hear the whole ambient stuff round Kruder & Dorfmeister anymore.
Drum and Bass seems like a never-ending loop for years.
All these Electro-Clash/-Trash Bands - with a girl in front being "dirty" and singing stupid lyrics bout having sex with a stranger on a night out.
etc
Doesn't really seem like any new ideas.

Or am I wrong? Just 2o far away in lil' Austria from where music takes place ?!

I was told there is a post on how Simon Reynold's Generation Ecstasy would continue in 2000 and after. Couldn't find it though. So if you know it, I'd be happy if you sent me the link.

So, what's going on out there?

yes, true. it's just sad that in the clubs over here it doesn't seem to be that much about enjoying music anymore - more a "present-yourself" thing - and arty head-nodding.

vienna's DUB SCENE is really big. however, i don't feel that anything changed and after about 5 years listening to the same of similar tracks ...

Though I'm too lazy to dig out specific examples, I currently view music from non-anglophone countries as a potential source of renewal. I suspect there are many relatively unknown sounds in Africa and Asia, for example which are ready to be mined. Also, I still expect technological influences, less in the way of hardware or software but in the way people can use the internet as a sampling source and as a collaboration medium.

sorry for calling you an idiot. i regret it now.
check out klang/playhouse/ongaku- they are german they have been pressing a lot of great new minimal house and techno. they released a hieroglyphic being lp (jamal moss) that is fucking on point- "conversations in an analog dialect"
I mean, i think that left-field house is going to resurge in the minimalist scene, thankfully in a more tasteful way probably because it won't be in britain. check out isolee, you probably have heard of him though, he's been around and hot since like '96.
also listen to some sade, ted would agree with me. he might even post and agree with me in the post. i like the idea of sabe listening to sade.
