By god, there must be a thread for this album.

I can't find a picture of it, I'll leave that to you.

This is the cream of 1991, folks.

I ran over the Stone Roses in a clown suit on a unicycle that year.

I thought this album was, like, horrible? I remember having a copy when I was like 14, at least, and hating its guts and throwing it in the Shoebox of Doom right next to Deacon Blue.

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 26 October 2006 21:39 (nineteen years ago)

it's not horrible, surprisingly a lot of those latter-day factory mis-steps aren't that bad in retrospect. but it is no classic.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 26 October 2006 22:50 (nineteen years ago)

for "my rising star" alone, there will always be a place in my life for northside.

i really don't imagine they've aged well, mind you.

Wags is in the "reformed" Happy Mondays

jesus, really?

hang on ... bloody hell! how odd.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 26 October 2006 23:28 (nineteen years ago)

what a truly, truly magnificent song this was. is!

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 26 October 2006 23:29 (nineteen years ago)

the video is charming too. funny: when i was 16, i remember thinking the paris angels were terrifying scallies who'd rob your trainers as soon as look at you. now, at 31, they just look sweet and lovely.

i'm still sometimes taken aback by what a twat 16-year-old me was.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 26 October 2006 23:41 (nineteen years ago)

Grimly, we've had this conversation before about bands playing your town that don't come to mine. If this sort of thing keeps up, I'll have to put you on some kind of demerit point system. Penalties include escorted attendance to football matches and Bob Dylan marathons.

Dugga Dugga Dugga (Bimble...), Friday, 27 October 2006 00:07 (nineteen years ago)

Ha! This is great stuff. My Rising Star is, as grimly suggests, a terrific song. The Northside I have these days is on Palatine, but I may have to get the LTM reissue of the album.

Gross Chapel British Grenadiers (Bimble), Monday, 9 February 2009 14:43 (seventeen years ago)

I've got a gig of them from December 1990. My friend hooked me up. Christ.

Never let it be said there is anything better in this world than music that came from Manchester.
Jesus, for the love of god. Never better than Manchester, ever.

"The Weight of Air" oh my god. What a song. I remember the trainspotters in England. There was a man who had binoculars at the airport, he was a trainspotter. But he gave me the rest of his soda pop. I'll never forget it, just this nice gesture. I had no money, no food, nothing and he gave me the rest of his soda pop, this trainspotter. And I was playing the Northside album. Couldn't we forgive that man for being a trainspotter? He knew all the trains, he watched them. He was an expert.
