I just noticed this existed. And it's good! Weird. It's sort of analog electronic but not annoying like Dead Media. It also has more diverse lyrical content than the overdone twee love stuff. You Hefner fans should check it out I think!

i haven't liked the last two singles at all, but that could just be because i'm sick of the sound of his voice

i think he has a real narrow range to work in where he's not entirely annoying. the french were outside that range. I imagine this is too. sometimes it seems like he thinks he's clever enough to not have ot write a song if he has lyrics that are "witty". when he started writing about people at large rather than the dirty personal stories it got a bit boring.

ten years pass...

Bit bemused to see Hayman has received an award for being Hard Working - not that he does or doesn't deserve it (I wouldn't know).

More "Hard Working" doesn't seem like the greatest compliment in the context of a musician.

I don't really know much about him - I'm vaguely aware of Hefner and have got his album about Lidos - but his album about Happy Villages seems a great * idea *.

DH seems pleased to have received it so I'm inclined to think of it as a compliment, but I agree that as an award it could be taken the wrong way.

TBF he manages to do the big high-concept things (Thankful Villages, the double LP about the witches...) and fit in more regular solo projects / Darren Hayman and the Secondary Modern stuff plus being in any number of other bands at the same time. And he does vg dog drawings!
