The Complete David Bowie by Nicholas Pegg
This is indisputably it when it comes to Bowie obsession. Currently in its third edition.

however, for something that's only slightly a biography and more an exploration of all his albums through "scary monsters" (aka everything on RCA), i recommend chris welch's "we could be heroes: the stories behind every david bowie song". it's got lots of pretty pictures and good straight facts on every track 1970-1980 and a good bit on 60's bowie too. 'tis just a shame it stops there. but, that's where pegg's book is better, especially since it was revised and updated.

an amazing book which caused me to have a major bowie phase of ridiculous proportions way back in earlt 2003 (laboriously detailed on ILM).
