Anybody heard anything about the new The Young Gods album?

Should have been released last April according to their site: http://www.younggods.com/cms/front_content.php?idcat=99 but that obviously didn't happen. Caught them live (again) at the end of last year and they played quite a few new tracks, one of which was by far the best thing they played all night; a raging 10 or so minutes which literally seemed to be tearing its way through the speakers at one stage. They really were on fire that night...

Anyway hence the excitement about the new album and the wondering as to when it's due?

The Young Gods are now in studio working on the new album and live DVD,

DJ Martian (djmartian), Friday, 23 June 2006 12:11 (nineteen years ago)

so the new stuff is all noise and such as opposed to the quiet storm of their last(??) electronica album ?

mark e (mark e), Friday, 23 June 2006 12:15 (nineteen years ago)

Well the track I mention was, yeah. Think Second Nature squared, not Music For Artificial Clouds... I mean really intense. I was only a few feet from the stage at the time (and hence the PA) and it sounded like pure digital noise... Merzbow-like even. Maybe it was only a live thing. Hope not though :)

"Secret" is on their compilation LP, and if the rest of the new record is as good, this bodes extremely well...I for one am, er, super ready for it...

henry s, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 15:14 (nineteen years ago)

The first track is on their MySpace page

StanM, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 21:02 (nineteen years ago)

I fucking love this band. Thougth they deserved a lot more attention during the short-lived industrial revolution.

NYCNative, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 21:03 (nineteen years ago)

sooo excited!

sous les paves, Thursday, 8 March 2007 09:30 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, this band really is pretty great.

sleeve, Thursday, 8 March 2007 15:22 (nineteen years ago)

Oh I can't wait for this!!! One of my most favourite bands EVER!! Was the 1st band I ever went to see in concert,

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Thursday, 8 March 2007 15:38 (nineteen years ago)

I shall have this in about 10 minutes :)

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Thursday, 8 March 2007 15:43 (nineteen years ago)

This is a total return to form!!!
Skip the track with the annoying autotune and its awesome. I hope they tour this. 12 years since I saw them is far too long!

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Thursday, 8 March 2007 22:51 (nineteen years ago)

You mean Machine Arrière? That's a bit filler-like, but the rest is very wow indeed...

Yes, they are touring this! And I ordered my ticket for the Brussels show! (just no UK dates yet, according to the tour dates here )

StanM, Friday, 9 March 2007 12:50 (nineteen years ago)

Last time they played there was no scottish dates.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Friday, 9 March 2007 12:53 (nineteen years ago)

Uh oh, didn't notice this: just one date in London & that's it? :-(

StanM, Friday, 9 March 2007 12:54 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, you meant Stay With Us (the autotune thing) - dunno, I like it.

StanM, Friday, 9 March 2007 13:02 (nineteen years ago)

Could this be the best Young Gods album, 20 years into their career?

StanM, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 08:15 (nineteen years ago)

Well, I don't think its competes with the 1st 4 quite yet(not including the Kurt Weill tribute)
But it would've made an awesome follow up to Only Heaven.

bought it the other day, it's pretty awesome! aside from everything else, it sounds fantastic. my one gripe is that the songwriting could do with a tad more variation, but i guess they're trying to maintain a groove, and a mood, and doing so very successfully, i may add.

I guess they're putting out a new All-Acoustic album + Live DVD. I don't know how much their sound works unplugged. Half of their charm for me is the way that live sounding loops get made un-natural sounding through the computer editing, and when it's all played live maybe it can get a little monotone? Anyway the last album was amazing and I'll defnatley be buying this

New album has leaked. It's out on Nov 23rd, called Everybody Knows and it's more acoustic than the previous one, overall, but vv good after one listen.

StanM, Saturday, 6 November 2010 21:00 (fifteen years ago)

It may already be out in Europe, but I haven't seen it yet. I did order that 3CD/3DVD live box though :-) http://newwebsite.twogentlemen.net/

StanM, Saturday, 6 November 2010 21:13 (fifteen years ago)

Ta, I have now ordered that myself.

The new album isn't just more acoustic than the previous one, it's also more electronic, bluesier, more ambient. I need more listens to decide what I think about it, it's more complex than I first thought.

aldo, did you get that DVD live box yet? They sent out a mail about manufacturing issues and how it should be here by the end of November, but that's the last thing I heard about it :-(

StanM, Saturday, 4 December 2010 11:04 (fifteen years ago)

nevermind - release date has been set back yet again ( http://www.twogentlemen.net/ now has 10.12.2010 )

StanM, Saturday, 4 December 2010 11:06 (fifteen years ago)

Sorry, been at ATP. Yeah, I bought the new album at the same time and they'd put a note inside that saying it had been put back to the 10th.

ia! ia! Cartman fthagn! (aldo), Monday, 6 December 2010 15:17 (fifteen years ago)

Got it today, only had the chance to catch the sinfonietta one, but that one's great already.

StanM, Friday, 17 December 2010 22:42 (fifteen years ago)

Hopeful mine will turn up tomorrow then.

progspeed you! black metallers (aldo), Friday, 17 December 2010 23:22 (fifteen years ago)

Mmm. Don't know what to think about the Dälek collaboration. It's nice and dark and it's all noisy loops and drastically reworked versions - pretty amazing how these guys can be so refreshing and challenging at the same time, after 30-odd years.

Sounds pretty good, I like this kinda 21st Century Doors thing they've settled into. Have to admit I would love just one more apocalyptic classical/thrash metal sampling soundclash, the Kurt Weill record is so very good.
