T/S: Allmusic should be refered to as Somemusic

Search crashes/freezes more often than not, hyperlinks to artists and producers are usually wack.

The current name is too dogmatic given the Grand Canyon sized holes in discographies

Still no review of Andy's favorite album from 2004 - "Red Tape." Is it beyond words?

Counterpoint: I do love the album of the day.

Wow. So Allmusic has deficiencies, you say? Fancy.

Half loaf, half pompadour (noodle vague), Friday, 23 June 2006 15:57 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, it was failing to find Sockeye's Grand Wizards of Your Parents' Sex Lives on Allmusic that first made me realize there was no God nor any justice in the universe

Thomas Tallis (Tommy), Friday, 23 June 2006 15:58 (nineteen years ago)

Oh there's a god all right. I'm just less benevolent than you think.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 23 June 2006 16:00 (nineteen years ago)

Manmade database in non-omnipotence in scope shocker!

Whiney G. Weingarten (whineyg), Friday, 23 June 2006 16:12 (nineteen years ago)

why don't they have a review of the mix cd i made last week?

gear (gear), Friday, 23 June 2006 16:29 (nineteen years ago)

I'm just bitter.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 23 June 2006 16:33 (nineteen years ago)

AMG caught in partial undress SHOCKA!!!

Still rather have it than not have it. Of course it could be better. Couldn't you?

J Arthur Rank (Quin Tillian), Friday, 23 June 2006 16:33 (nineteen years ago)

I love the site, too bad it hasn't seemed to work since yesterday. Every search just takes me to a blank page in which only the header shows up. And while I'm on the subject, those damn ads that suddenly overtake the whole screen are an annoyance.

But on the whole its a great site.

jonviachicago (jonviachicago), Friday, 23 June 2006 16:39 (nineteen years ago)

I haven't used it much since (one of)the disastrous redo(s) of the website, so I haven't missed it. I'm still waiting on 'Ned reads his own reviews' to arrive so I can abandon it altogether. You cashed the check dude, what's up?

tremendoid (tremendoid), Friday, 23 June 2006 16:43 (nineteen years ago)

The blow doesn't pay for itself!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 23 June 2006 16:44 (nineteen years ago)

i've been having that search engine problem as well. fix it, ned.

gear (gear), Friday, 23 June 2006 17:03 (nineteen years ago)

*well played, sir*

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Friday, 23 June 2006 17:41 (nineteen years ago)

I love how many threads on this site are spent bitching about the quality of free things.

Whiney G. Weingarten (whineyg), Friday, 23 June 2006 17:42 (nineteen years ago)

no almanac, no credibility

jinx hijinks (sanskrit), Friday, 23 June 2006 18:37 (nineteen years ago)

Damnit, I was just gonna post...

NO DENNY LETHARGY, NO CREDIBILITY

Classical coverage is pretty amazing, non English-speakee rock is VERY patchy

Soukesian (Soukesian), Friday, 23 June 2006 20:38 (nineteen years ago)

allmusic is cool. cept when i first started reading it they always recommended i should listen to incubus s.c.i.e.n.c.e no matter what band i was researching. i see they've given up that though. come to think of it though that was a really good record. but for some reason they rank their latest output as better. so yeah... incubus.

cracker killer (crackerkiller), Friday, 23 June 2006 22:40 (nineteen years ago)

I haven't used it much since (one of)the disastrous redo(s) of the website

I have to say, this is true for me, too - the stuff that got broken in the initial redesign never got fixed, it's now a too-many-clicks-to-get-to-the-information-I-want drag. If I want a band's discography or bio I'm more likely to Google 'em and find a fan page now.

Thomas Tallis (Tommy), Friday, 23 June 2006 22:50 (nineteen years ago)

:-(

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 24 June 2006 00:07 (nineteen years ago)

Fan pages are so goddamned ugly though...

And you end up on pages a discography of Phish bootlegs and playboys scans.

God bless allmusic

although playboy scans...

Major Alfonso (Major Alfonso), Saturday, 24 June 2006 00:17 (nineteen years ago)

I have to say, this is true for me, too

And me. I still go to allmusic when I have to, but these days I'll usually check wiki or something first, just because it's so much faster. It makes me sad though, cos I used to LOVE allmusic SO much, and the quality of its content, once you get to it, is still way high I reckon.

JimD (JimD), Saturday, 24 June 2006 00:41 (nineteen years ago)

INDEED. ;-)

Actually since the reviews get licensed out all over the place I don't fear about my content not surfacing...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 24 June 2006 01:14 (nineteen years ago)

SILKK THE SHOCKA!
