"If her father said yes, you took her along to a junglist mash-up. It was called "jungle" then, not drum n bass, that came later".

Anyway, this song is great and for some reason doesn't have a thread in its honour. Consider that rectified.

i was reading 'energy flash' over breakfast, and he was just getting to this when i had to leave.

Is UK Apachi = Apachi Indian? I've always wondered. Totally classic track obv. Shy FX could practically do no wrong back them.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 26 June 2006 14:18 (nineteen years ago)

they're different guys.

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Monday, 26 June 2006 14:19 (nineteen years ago)

UK Apache went on to lower key vocal work with Badmarsh & Shri. I'm not sure what happened to Apache Indian, but 'Chok There' is an overlooked single!

Konal Doddz (blueski), Monday, 26 June 2006 14:30 (nineteen years ago)

steve has tactfully spelled his name right and all.

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Monday, 26 June 2006 14:32 (nineteen years ago)

UK Apachi denounced his "jungle" past some years ago and became a strict muslim, claiming that ragga-style MCing prmoted "slackness" or words to that effect. However, last I heard (about 3 years ago) he was back in the game...

Great record, though. Apparently at the Notting Hill carnival in 1994, DJ Hype couldn't get the record to play as the crowd were jumping up and down so much.

One day some of the kids in the neighborhood carried my mother's groceries all the way home. You know why? It was out of respect.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 08:33 (nineteen years ago)

Not to discuss Apache Indian too far, but didn't he end up doing adverts for Ikea around 99/2000?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 10:17 (nineteen years ago)

I once had a dream where I heard Annie Lennox covering "Original Nuttah" in her standard Eurythmics style.

That evening's belated rice pudding intake was undoubtedly ill-advised.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 11:06 (nineteen years ago)

I certaintly agree. A few weeks or so ago I was listening to it, and realised out of nowhere that I knew the words in it. Not that that's much of a feat, but I dunno. . .

Thomas Mehlt (Tokyo Ghost Stories), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 04:38 (nineteen years ago)

ive seen two online interpretations of the lyrics

"Bad boys inna London,
Rude boys inna England,
Bad boys inna Jericho,
Rude boys inna Kingston"

and "Bad boys him a take on" for the third line. But i could swear i saw somewhere that said it was "Bad boys innna Jamdung" ?????

XD (eman), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 11:19 (nineteen years ago)

inna jheri curl?

JoB (JoB), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 12:33 (nineteen years ago)

inna India, possibly.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 12:39 (nineteen years ago)

hahahaha "inna jheri curl"! That's going to be my interpretation from now on.

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 12:42 (nineteen years ago)

"inna jerkin"

jerkin being:

"A close-fitting, hip-length, collarless jacket having no sleeves but often extended shoulders, belted and worn over a doublet by men especially in the 16th century."

iain macdonald (the_article_don), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 13:41 (nineteen years ago)

bad boys inna merkin

I just assumed the word in the line before Kingston was Jamaica.

Thomas Mehlt (Tokyo Ghost Stories), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 23:56 (nineteen years ago)

This was the song that won me over to Jungle in 1994...not to say I stuck it out, but yeah, this song on one hand, and Inner City Life on the other made that year the year of potential for Jungle (cum D&B) for me.

PappaWheelie 2 (PappaWheelie 2), Thursday, 29 June 2006 00:46 (nineteen years ago)

The slowed-down two-step remix (T Power I think?) is shitty

XD (eman), Thursday, 29 June 2006 01:54 (nineteen years ago)

xp: i thought it was jamaica too.

"nuttah" is a great song. i have some janky looking japanese 2cd comp of jungle stuff and that's one of the highlights.

GOD PUNCH TO HAWKWIND (yournullfame), Thursday, 29 June 2006 02:57 (nineteen years ago)

that makes the most sense obv. - london, england / kingston, jamaica

why is "jericho" so widely accepted on these shitty lyric sites?

XD (eman), Thursday, 29 June 2006 03:37 (nineteen years ago)

haha o no this aint intelligent.

Deluxe Merseybeat Wig (Jack Battery-Pack), Saturday, 29 May 2010 18:44 (fifteen years ago)

Man I love jungle of this era.

rhythm fixated member (chap), Saturday, 29 May 2010 19:40 (fifteen years ago)

two years pass...

I didn't hear this song on TV or the radio or read about it anywhere today to cause this, but I've been hearing it on a loop in my mind for most of this afternoon.
