What about a thread about artists that are completely open about their heroin or cocaine use?!
like lou reed, nick cave, fleetwood mac, and big percent of the dead music legends?
though im not sure "open" is the right word here.

Are any bands that scared of admitting to marijuana use these days? This thread might more accurately be called "artists who brag about their marijuana use or make it a big selling point in their image." It's like country artists and beer.

This thread could be 2000 posts because there aren't too many popular rock stars who worry that their pot use might not get them invited back on to the 700 Club.

Shocking, isn't it? Most people don't think of SY as a drug band for some reason, despite incredible psychedelic noise on par with everything else, but there they are on video smoking hash... later on Thurston is staring into a disco ball and swinging a tree branch around, which isn't something normal folks do if they ain't tripping.

I have to clarify about Frank Zappa & The Mothers Of Invention.
Frank Zappa may have personally refrained from drugs & alcohol,
but he always allowed his band to make their own choices.
There's video footage floating around of Zappa's band smoking
fat joints onstage.

Pete Townshend was in the early/mid-60s, which probably doesn't sound like a big deal, except that his pot usage predated that of the Beatles and Stones by at least a year, if not more; and he was vocal/public about it prior to, and during, the British police crackdown on pop stars' drug possession. The Who literally couldn't get arrested.
