Volume 1 is great, this looks even better to me.

Dee Xtrovert (dee dee), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 20:22 (nineteen years ago)

Thank you, Jesus. I must have it.

Soul Jazz really does put out nice stuff. Pity they stopped doing the Dynamite series though.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 22:53 (nineteen years ago)

did they? why?

hi alex!

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 22:54 (nineteen years ago)

Hi!

Beats me! They sold well I think, but there hasn't been one since 600% like three years ago though.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 22:56 (nineteen years ago)

that's weird, i always assumed those did really well.

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 22:58 (nineteen years ago)

they did - i think there was maybe a touch of 'diminishing returns' (or at least i wasn't as crazy about the later ones) and soul jazz started focusing more on doing 'studio one rockers', 'studio one soul', etc. for the reggae reissues.

j blount (papa la bas), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 23:01 (nineteen years ago)

Well the pattern was pretty obvious by the last couple, but they are all still pretty strong.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 23:19 (nineteen years ago)

Looks nice; can I strongly recommend you peep some of the Document label material for some older, rawer vocal work? It's all pretty much on emusic these days.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 23:28 (nineteen years ago)

can you give a link? googling document label isn't very helpful.

If yr ever in chicago during the gospel fest (this year's happened already) its a pretty unsurpassable event.

can you give a link?

i like the studio one soul comps but they're hit-and-miss and frequently way better in theory. but darker than blue on b&f is really good. to digress.

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 01:36 (nineteen years ago)

..and soul jazz started focusing more on doing 'studio one rockers', 'studio one soul', etc. for the reggae reissues.

apropos of nothing, the other week i finally made it out to Coxsone's Music City - http://www.georgwa.demon.co.uk/music_city.htm

I guess they get a deal on stuff from their own archives, as those Soul Jazz Studio One comps retail for $15 rather than the $23-24 you see elsewhere in the city.
