But what really interested me was that he was once the drummer in Southern Death Cult. Which I did not know.

Wish they'd stop putting those stupid patronising lists at the end of every article. They wouldn't do it with Boulez.

"I've told my wife that if anything goes wrong with me I want you outside Paddington Green and I want you staying there day and night."

To which his wife no doubt said "Oh, good."

He's a bit old for this sort of thing, isn't he?

For a second I thought you meant Bin Laden was once the drummer in Southern Death Cult.

ha, is this the same guy questioned by police at Heathrow for wearing a 'Don't Panic, I'm Islamic' t-shirt shortly after 9/11? Nawaz has always seemed like a really nice guy tho. I remember him going on XFM's The Remix in 2002 to introduce a brilliant 30 minute mix by Audio Shrapnel (which included Elephant Man's 'The Bombing' amongst other politically charged tracks) in his light Bradford accent. I suppose in many people's views, this would be like sampling Hitler though. And the only bands to have done that are far-right ones?

Laibach?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 09:36 (nineteen years ago)

i dunno, hence question mark

Marcello otm re: those irritating lists, esp. this one which seems particularly random.

Nation Records is still going? This is the only way Fun-da-Mental will get any press now I guess. When I saw them live early on in their career (with Blaggers ITA!) they were energetic and good but I can't imaginr they are now. They were dressed like jihadists even then--faces obscured etc. "This album puts the fun in fundamentalism!" They can use that on the sticker on their cover if they want.

I'm pretty sure that Fun'Da'Mental are still the only act ever to have sampled Alan Clark.

Black Grape sampled Hitler, or at least sampled his fervant followers.

PS: Those World Cup Nazi helmets available on stalls on Oxford Street, including one for Spain, ha ha.

Thunder Mentalist would be the best band name ever, I've just realised.

with their debut single 'Nazi Synthesizer' now available on iTunes.

"Fervent followers" also sampled in the (Firesign Theatre) middle of "Hotel Indiscreet" by Sagittarius.

I saw a framed painting of Hitler (and not a small one either - about a metre tall) on a junk/antique stall this morning in Leicester market. Very odd to see.

Has there been a local performance of "The Producers" stage play?

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 12:32 (nineteen years ago)

one month passes...
All of a sudden there was a burst of talk about this album on a private listserv I'm on. Did I miss something happening today?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 13:13 (nineteen years ago)

Came out this week, I think.
Never one to rest on her paramilitary-referencing, MIA professes to 'Keep my shit hidden like Bin Laden' as the refrain on the remix of 'Got Grapes' by Nump, which leaked last week. Osama must be so flattered.

Didn't John Fahey "sample" a short Hitler rant in the Yellow Princess?
