IS RENARD GONNA MEET NOIZERS FOR A BEER

the eunuchs, Cassim and Mustafa, who guarded Abdur Ali's harem (orion), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 17:40 (nineteen years ago)

renard's gotta work until right up to show time but noize beer at webster hall is affirmative

I may need a field guide to recognizing noizers in their native habitat (vooredoms show)

dmr (Renard), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 17:54 (nineteen years ago)

Wow, that's a bigger capacity venue than their warm-up gigs for the tour in Tokyo.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 17:56 (nineteen years ago)

Eurotrash klub-nite dance-party afterwards?

Total Fucking Dorkness (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 18:03 (nineteen years ago)

dmr (Renard), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 18:05 (nineteen years ago)

have to go a wedding in upstate NY. :(

jinx hijinks (sanskrit), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 20:57 (nineteen years ago)

Ticket to Baaba Maal on the same night sadly trumps this since I see them a few days prior; looks like it's gonna be philly only.
Is there a free show following up?

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 21:34 (nineteen years ago)

i bought tix for the philly show cuz it was announced first and i wanted the double bill of boredoms and lightning bolt but if i hadn't been so impatient i WOULD be at the NYC show, esp since i live in new york...oh well. cheaper tix in PA anyway.

SPEAKING OF BOREDOMS+NYC does anyone know the deal with those two free shows with the seventy some drummers? (location, venue capacity, expected attendance/arrival time suggestions, whether or not tickets are necessary, etc)

buyabiznatch (buyabiznatch), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 23:14 (nineteen years ago)

the one at Deitch Projects is canceled as far as I know. I hadn't heard about another one.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Thursday, 29 June 2006 13:59 (nineteen years ago)

Anyone been to a Lightning Bolt show recently?

If so, what kind of CD's do they sell at the shows? Just the albums or what? I'm really interested in these guys and would love to get some cool shit from them outside of their three (?) LP's.

Magna Gardner (New Media Intern), Thursday, 29 June 2006 21:18 (nineteen years ago)

my ears hurt now

dan bunnybrain (dan bunnybrain), Sunday, 2 July 2006 17:47 (nineteen years ago)

couldn't make it to the show last night, dan. how was it?

Christopher Costello (CGC), Sunday, 2 July 2006 18:00 (nineteen years ago)

I drove 420 miles to see the Philly show, and then drove right back after it was over, but yeah it was totally worth it (thanks tofu for the extra ticket!). Although possibly the hottest and sweatiest show I've ever been to. 3 drum kits in a circle, with Eye conducting everything. Only thing that could have made it better for me might have been some guitar or something, just to kinda add a different element once in a while. But that's a small gripe.

Stingy (stingy), Sunday, 2 July 2006 20:13 (nineteen years ago)

I'm surprised Ey3 hasn't used the ultramegapowerchord thing with the balls (from GATAX) in V∞redoms....

Machibuse '80 (ex machina), Sunday, 2 July 2006 21:04 (nineteen years ago)

One thing that Eye did at the start of the show involved these handheld light things. I wasn't right at the front, so not clear as to whether they were making sound themselves, or if it was just for looks and the sound was coming from elsewhere. It looked cool, regardless.

Stingy (stingy), Sunday, 2 July 2006 21:09 (nineteen years ago)

the starlite ballroom is like the blackhole of calcutta or something

Bea Arthur - Lost COmic GEnius ? (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 2 July 2006 22:18 (nineteen years ago)

I saw them in Columbus and I still have yet to recover. It was alternately compared to "what it sounded like when God created the ocean"; "a cultic tribal gathering that I wasn't supposed to be watching but was"; "what music sounded like a thousand years ago and what it will sound like a thousand years from now" and "the best dance party I've ever experienced."

When I first got there, I sort of regretted the four hour drive and thought maybe I wasted money on gas and tickets that I didn't have, but about 15 minutes into the concert, I was calculating the cost in my head of moving to Japan to see them play all of the time.

David Allen (David Allen), Sunday, 2 July 2006 22:40 (nineteen years ago)

oh, and the weirdest part is it's like an hour of complex drumming -- I don't mean just kind of playing a beat and messing around and going off of it in a jazzy sort of way, not really at all-- and as far as I could tell almost none of it was improvised. I'm still trying to figure out how they do it exactly.

David Allen (David Allen), Sunday, 2 July 2006 22:44 (nineteen years ago)

Same way you get to Carnegie Hall, methinks.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Sunday, 2 July 2006 23:30 (nineteen years ago)

They took the A or C train to Columbus Circle?

Whiney G. Weingarten (whineyg), Monday, 3 July 2006 02:44 (nineteen years ago)

Crazy good instructors on that A train. Ask Ellington.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Monday, 3 July 2006 03:47 (nineteen years ago)

the starlite ballroom is like the blackhole of calcutta or something

at least there's some air conditioning. i ended up right in front of EYE at stage left where it was at least a little cooler thanks to being in proximity to two air conditioners.

the first unitarian church @ 22 & Chestnut genuinely is the black hole of calcutta. the whole room sweats with condensation. i'm not sure if anything matches the level of disgusting achieved by an acid mother's temple crowd on a mild October night in 2004.

also: show destroyed, bringing futurists and west philly crust punks together for the first...time...ever?

blackmail (blackmail.is.my.life), Monday, 3 July 2006 11:28 (nineteen years ago)

fuc = shithole seconded

killy (baby lenin pin), Monday, 3 July 2006 11:30 (nineteen years ago)

Funny, three different friends who saw the Boredoms/LB show said that the Boredoms were awful (two of them have seen them before, the first time for the other). They made note of the drumming, but instead of "what it sounded like when God created the ocean" or ""a cultic tribal gathering that I wasn't supposed to be watching but was," they said it was "three drummers basically playing the same drum beat for 45-60 minutes. What happened to the Boredoms?"

Suzy Creemcheese (SuzyCreemcheese), Monday, 3 July 2006 11:34 (nineteen years ago)

make that four people -- 'cause i thought the philly show BLEW major donkey dick.

mts (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 3 July 2006 14:41 (nineteen years ago)

dan bunnybrain (dan bunnybrain), Monday, 3 July 2006 14:52 (nineteen years ago)

mts - are you kidding?!

The opening guy sucked, Lightning Bolt sucked a very large ass (probably the most bored I've ever been at a show in my life), but the Boredoms probably put on the best show I've seen by anybody anywhere.

reynard the fox (Pearl Hooch), Monday, 3 July 2006 15:01 (nineteen years ago)

snoozeville. hippy drum circle with rave keyboards. the stench of the room was less offensive than the band!

mts (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 3 July 2006 15:07 (nineteen years ago)

Lightning Bolt were awesome as usual and I thought Boredoms were great too.

jazzrule (jazzrule), Monday, 3 July 2006 18:19 (nineteen years ago)

hippy drum circle with rave keyboards

mts, you listen to shitty indie rock. what do you know about "rave keyboards"?

CDDB (Dan Deluca), Monday, 3 July 2006 18:34 (nineteen years ago)

The Boredoms vs Lily Allen, LOLZ

CDDB (Dan Deluca), Monday, 3 July 2006 18:35 (nineteen years ago)

the real d4n d3luc4 wouldnt know much about rave keyboards either, hoss.

mts (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 3 July 2006 18:47 (nineteen years ago)

CDDB (Dan Deluca), Monday, 3 July 2006 18:49 (nineteen years ago)

xxxxxpost,
the level of disgusting achieved by an acid mother's temple crowd on a mild October night in 2004

Yes! That show sticks out in my mind as one of the most uncomfortable, shitty show experiences EVER

Can we discuss when-the-fuck/how-the-fuck the Boredoms went from celebrated cult band to the type of band that sells out a Webster Hall full of fist-pumping jocks?

Whiney G. Weingarten (whineyg), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 05:53 (nineteen years ago)

Boredoms were great, but lightning bolt stole the show.

dan bunnybrain (dan bunnybrain), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 10:54 (nineteen years ago)

lightning bolt were the perfect intro to the bore attack with their play on the floor and don't use the pa hippie act. then the boredoms came out and did a similar thing on a cosmic scale. they were all - you humans are cute.

also, i did not see any jocks. the roving bands of tiny japanese girls really added something though.

jhoshea (scoopsnoodle), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 12:12 (nineteen years ago)

I spose it depends on to what degree BONZOSO'S MONTREAUX is your favorite Led Zep number.

hey look, jon learned how to use google! btw, i saw you at the show, or your doppleganger. its kind of hard to tell though, in a sea of white dudes.

"hi I'm wrinklepaws"

Machibuse '80 (ex machina), Friday, 7 July 2006 04:51 (nineteen years ago)

Lightning Bolt absolutley blew me away, best show I've seen in ages.

Boredoms were boring.

magnagardner (New Media Intern), Friday, 7 July 2006 15:54 (nineteen years ago)

That wasn't even a particularly good Lightning Bolt show.

Machibuse '80 (ex machina), Friday, 7 July 2006 16:11 (nineteen years ago)

It was the first time I had ever seen them. I didn't realize going into it exaclty how awesome of a live experience the band is. I was RIGHT up front too, almost behind the band. I was shocked. It was really incredible.

Part of the reason I was so let down by the Boredoms was because of how mind-blowing the LB set was for me.

magnagardner (New Media Intern), Friday, 7 July 2006 16:40 (nineteen years ago)

the track where they splice Bonzo's Montreaux and Moby Dick on the box set is pretty good

>the track where they splice Bonzo's Montreaux and Moby Dick on the box set is pretty good

if Coda had just been a forty minute version of Montreaux we could have skipped a lot of the 90's

what's happening
