The Mountain Goats cover of "Pet Politics" by Silver Jews on the last music issue CD is still one of my favorite songs ever.

"God Knows (You Gotta Give To Get) - El Perro Del Mar"

This song is AMAZING. Never heard of them before this CD but I am blown away.

Way better than last year, no question. The Bun B interview is great. If Believer ever figures out that a transcribed conversation between two rock singers makes for awful reading they'll really have something.

I think the CD is worse than last year (the writing in the magazine a little better over all). I like The El Perro Del Mar track (lovely loungey pop), the Calexico and the ragtimey Mamadou Diabate instrumental. But the lo-fi noise stuff is tedious. And I like Jim White better when he isn't sitting on Flannery O'Connor's porch.

The writing in the mag is better than last year's, but... the Believer kind of makes me want to vomit most of the time.
