Cocaine's a bad influence on dance music?

sim (simbo), Monday, 3 July 2006 20:40 (nineteen years ago)

Is this a new question or did you just see the issue that mixmag does every few years asking this same one?

hector (hector), Monday, 3 July 2006 20:49 (nineteen years ago)

LOL- whats mixmag?

sim (simbo), Monday, 3 July 2006 20:52 (nineteen years ago)

I thought cocaine WAS dance music ... :-)

O'Connor (OConnorScribe), Monday, 3 July 2006 22:47 (nineteen years ago)

No, that's ecstacy.

Kokane (born Jerry Long, Jr.) is a rapper from Pomona, California and best known for working on the G-funk album Funk Upon A Rhyme and his backup work with Snoop Dogg. He is the son of Motown composer Jerry Long, Sr. and started his career at Eazy-E's Ruthless Records, co-writing songs for NWA and Above The Law. He released his first solo album under the name Who Am I?, probably because "Kokane" was deemed to be offensive, also known for feuding with Dr. Dre and Kurupt, and was a member of the 357 Crip (Westside Mafia) set. He is now signed to 50 Cent's record label G-Unit Records.

Cocaine's a good influence on what already?

Critically acclaimed ratings grabbing sitcom Nathan Barley!

Valuable efforts but I believe my question still stands.

blunt (blunt), Monday, 3 July 2006 23:20 (nineteen years ago)

my mood

lf (lfam), Monday, 3 July 2006 23:43 (nineteen years ago)

but seriously, enough of these fucking threads! dance music isn't doing half-bad and nathan fake, cocaine, and cubase teamed up don't stand a chance of hurting it.

lf (lfam), Monday, 3 July 2006 23:44 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I do hate all this doomsaying on dance music... All the genres that matter (ie the ones I like) are still modestly thriving, they're just not being written about in the Sunday papers for the time being.

chap who would dare to be a nerd, not a geek (chap), Monday, 3 July 2006 23:47 (nineteen years ago)

I must admit that i don't even know who nathan fake is, but then I am a GRASS ROOTS JUNGLIST (fooling no one).

chap who would dare to be a nerd, not a geek (chap), Monday, 3 July 2006 23:56 (nineteen years ago)

now, if nathan fake made a record in cubase accompanied by a cigar box full of cocaine, would that be a bad influence on dance music?

lf (lfam), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 00:50 (nineteen years ago)

People need to stop hating on cocaine.

Jacob (Jacob), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 03:01 (nineteen years ago)

more snort less retort

jergins (jergins), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 05:20 (nineteen years ago)

if cocaine was a bad influence on dance music we would still be dancing to polkas and waltzes

joan vich (joan vich), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 06:48 (nineteen years ago)

somebody needs to investigate those gay people and keep them away from modern dance, i hear they killed disco

Lucas Pine (Ignatius), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 07:03 (nineteen years ago)

I would argue that cocaine is a bad influence on most art. While loads of artists do it, scenes based on it are pretty weak (and I'm not a fan of older UK garage, LA metal or indeed mid-90s Britpop)

I keep picturing the recording studio scene from Boogie Nights.

Treblekicker (treblekicker), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 12:29 (nineteen years ago)

Everytime you see people disappearing off to do charlie, they never dance afterwards, this is a bad thing for DANCE music.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 13:32 (nineteen years ago)

but seriously, enough of these fucking threads!

re: Vitalic "you prefer cocaine"

I remember reading an interview with him where he discussed his cocaine abuse and mentioned, quite sadly, that he would never be able to recreate the genius of his coke days...this could argue for both sides

Space Is the Place (Space Is the Place), Thursday, 6 July 2006 15:13 (nineteen years ago)

I think that might be a bit defeatist... though I guess Sam Jackson says the same thing about his acting, and he has a hole in his septum cuz of all the white he did.

In terms of good coke vibes: Geiger "Cocain-E"

trees (treesessplode), Thursday, 6 July 2006 15:19 (nineteen years ago)

there was a question in mixmag,
"what does it take to create shit record?"

options were:
a pile of coke,
dutch connection,
(the other two i don't remember)

so like 90% voted for a pile of coke
but well you never know ::))

nique (nique), Thursday, 6 July 2006 18:42 (nineteen years ago)

what is dutch connection? is it some sort of mega blunt available only to the stars?
