Alls I know:

On March 25th, 2004, Chuck Eddy was listening to them but didn't know who they were

They've been compared to a cross 'twixt Kraftwerk and Neu

...but the song posted at New Wave Outpost (http://www.nwoutpost.com/song_of_the_week.html) sounds somewhat like the Great Lost Men Without Hats track (good thing)

Apparently had their CDs reissued in Germany in 2005, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to order these, if they exist.

Das assistance, if you please?

A not bad NDW band. You can order their CDs from amazon.de, and sample more tunes. Various NDW comps will probably have "Fluss," a signature song.

Dreiklangdimensionen is their top-tune.

Ich Will Spass (Jaap Schip), Monday, 10 July 2006 09:21 (nineteen years ago)

I quite like Distanz

eighteen years pass...

Performing in front of some West German footballers, looking exactly like West German footballers ca. 1984. Still now I know that Pierre Littbarski's favourite song is "Friday On My Mind" by the Easybeats. Good choice, Pierre!

Didn't realise that Bodo Staiger had died in 2019.

Yes. Seemed like good guy judging by the book on the Dusseldorf music scene.

'Der Fan'is a fantastic film.

I was stoked to find the "Fan Fan Fanatic" english language EP at Scott Seward's record store years back.

The Rheingold album Im Lauf Der Zeit from 2017 is worth tracking down - iirc Karl Bartos is part of it.

Only really know "Via Satellit", er, via this great Jonathan Bogart comp Wellen: German Federated Pop and New Wave, but it was a mixtape staple for a while.

19. Rheingold Via satellit
CBS | Düsseldorf, 1983

Another of the seminal Neue Deutsche Welle bands, Rheingold’s 1980 “Dreiklangs-Dimensionen,” with its ping-pong percussion, is a must-have in every NDW comp. But this drifting, tidal motorik song from their last record, predicting the 90s from Stereolab to Spaceman 3, is my favorite of their singles. Bringing the hopeful nerd futurism of “Telstar” into the cable-television, video-dating, nuclear-button 1980s, “Via Satellite” dreams of a future when all communication is as frictionless as space.
