The timing could hardly be better.
1987-1988: Become aware of the él label, find it slightly intriguing, am unable to find anything on it due to living in Norway. Particularly notice existence of the Would-Be-Goods for some reason.
1989-2000: Usually check the "W" sections in record shops when visiting London about once a year, but not putting any further effort into searching.
Late 2001: Start downloading music off the wonderful and mentalist Interweb. Find "Pinstriped Rebel", am charmed to very small bits.
Early March 2002: Start using Audiogalaxy, find more WBGs, listening to which make me grow slightly obsessive about getting hold of the lot. Am pleasantly surprised by info here and elsewhere on recent (!) and upcoming (!!) releases.
19 March 2002: Realise that AltaVista=D and Google=C, immediately find
official site with links to record companies selling old stuff and... news that "Brief Lives" will be issued
this Monday!
Woo-hoo, I say!

Well, seeing that I didn't actually ask a question, I don't actually
expect a lot of answers.

sixteen years pass...
Many years later (the above is from ~2002 I think, ILX migrations may have havocked datings somewhat), original poster am happy to report that Brief Lives not only filled expectations, but is still a favourite album of mine. <3 Was reminded of it again recently in EOY period by Mitski's vocals somehow.

Don't go down to the dodgems / you know it'll end in tears
Don't go up on the big wheel / you could be there for years
oh that's so Would-Be-Goods
